Marta’s on E.222 does Eastern European Comfort Food Right!. Northeast Ohio is home to a large European Immigrant community. Generation after generation has come here to plant roots, and brought with them their rich cultural traditions. Whether Slovak, Slovene, Czech, etc., they all share similar cultural traditions. And my favorite of these traditions is the food.I have found food euphoria at places like Fanny’s (formerly on E.156 near Waterloo), Sokolowski’s on the West Bank of the Cuyahoga, and the Slovenian Workman’s Home on Waterloo. Marta’s on E.222nd serves food that is in keeping with the traditions of all of these fine establishments. Pieroghis, Schnitzel, Paprikash, Goulash, Friday Fish Fry’s, and even a beautifully prepared Roast Duck are highlights of the menu. I have yet to order a meal there that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy. And when I dine-in, I can’t help but wash it all down with a tall, golden glass (or three) of Czech beer such as Pilsner Urquell or Krusovice.Marta’s is a charming old-school restaurant & pub on E.222nd St in Euclid. It’s not easy to find, so a quick trip to their website, or Google Maps my be necessary if this will be your first time getting over there. And parking is limited to a small lot in the back of the restaurant so be prepared to park on the (safe) side street next door.
