Just walked out of this half-empty establishment after being told that there was a 30 minute wait. Empty tables everywhere, no one waiting but there were running on a 30 minute wait. I thought I heard wrong!!! Really???
The first thing that struck me was that this is a very large establishment for a first-time startup business, and on entry, saw a large number of staff on duty for a mostly empty house. But the converted former Buffalo Winld Wings location does look pretty nice, even though it already has acquired the background stench of old beer spilled on the floorThe menu is what made me rethink what is intended here. The look and the logo gave me the impression that someone with some money is trying to turn this into a franchise, with this location as the pilot/test. I would say that like BDubs, this is a place to drink beer and other adult beverages while watching sporting events on any of the dozen or so huge tv screens I saw scattered about the place, but I m not sure what they think differentiates them from so many others joints with this same market in mind I will say that the dish I had, the pulled pork bbq nachos, would make a difference except that it is starting to appear on a number of menus locally. The best version available locally is just a mile or so away at Smoq, where the bbq is inarguably better but the price is indeed just a bit (about 75 cents) higher. The one thing Jax does to make this dish different from elsewhere is that they use saratoga chips in place of the corn chips that generally make up your standard nacho. The difference was interesting from both a taste and texture standpoint, but I have to admit I do still like the standard nacho chips quite a bit better in this dish. The absence of chopped tomatoes and of onions from the Jax rendition is also a disappointmentEverything I saw come out from the kitchen looked pretty decent, so I think one can get a pretty decent meal here, but not one I’d recommend making a special trip for
