Memories of johnny’s grill. What i remember about johnny’s grill is living next door when i was a little girl, which i am now 65 years old. i use to go in there and they would give me candy bars. i had forgotten what the place looked like until i went on line and seen the old building, and it looks the same as when i grew up. i remember the back yard was big and all the boys in the neighborhood use to play football. those were the days, makes me want to cry. the little house next door use to have a coal furnace and my mom made me go down to put coal in the furance when it got low. it had two bedrooms upstairs, and i use to slide sown the steps on my rear, how much fun we had me and my sisters. the old neighborhood looks the same too. i’m so glad i went on line to see the old place. i just might have to come and see the old place one day. thanks for letting me tell my story. clara holloway (bucci) my maiden name.
Great Place. This place reminds me of that corner bar in Chicago that only locals know of. There are 2 crowds. Afternoon crowd, which caters to the local drunks until around 4pm, then some more esteemed professionals after that. Evening crowd can turn into a playground for single and married people alike. Depends who you know or don’t know *wink wink*.Great drink pours and kind to your wallet. This IS A CASH ONLY BAR.One of the best entertainment values is if you can catch a blonde haired lady in there who seems to have her own seat at the bar reminiscent of Norm on Cheers… The locals call her Crazy but I hear she is very kind to the men if you catch my drift. I can’t recall her name but she is a mainstay from what I understand who drinks some kind of red drink with a side of soda and maybe some coca cola too. She is different but worth the entertainment. Just be careful, she might be in a good mood one day and want to stab you the next. A complete mental roller coaster.I really enjoy this establishment and look forward to many more days of free entertainment!
A Gem. There isn’t one thing I don’t love about Johnnie’s! They don’t do food, only drink, and it is super cheap! When I say cheap, I mean that I can buy a round of drinks for 5 people and including tip it will probably be under $12. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own pizza with them or to take advantage of the gigantic shelf of snacks they have available. Johnnie’s (a bar made out of a house) sits on Glenn Avenue – a quiet suburbany street in Grandview. It is a haven for locals and those who prefer to kick back with drinks and a game a pool. There are multiple rooms to the bar, including a front room that houses the actual bar, a pool room, a kitcheny room that usually has pretzels and peanuts, a back patio, and a mysterious back area where cases of beer and weird antiques sit. Going to Johnnie’s is always an experience and what’s not to love about being able to stay out all night for under $20?
