Sort of a localized version of a Bob Evan’s. The closest comparison I can make between the Golden Jersey Inn and any other restaurant is that the quality and appeal of the food, the service, and the atmosphere are pretty comparable to a Bob Evans. The decor is a bit fancier and they are targeting more upscale food, but it’s basically Bob Evans in spirit. Prices are similar to B. E., a notch higher actually probably to account for the communal plate of sweets that every table receives (sweet potato bread and butter, applesauce, and cole slaw.) The caliber of the cooking is pretty similar, and the service can be OK or crap. On a recent visit I grumbled loudly to our young waitress when she did not resolve a problem after a lengthy disappearance, and she did bring a manager to check on things and she did step up her game. However, there are always service glitches, like a large stack of dirty plates that should have been removed that weren’t when we started dessert.Worth the money? It’s solid food… a grilled pork chop was well cooked (missing the bacon that should have wrapped it), fresh, not canned green beans, and good lumpy mashed potatoes and gravy… a pork tenderloin was pretty yummy. At least they try here, and the glitchy service is no doubt owing to the young kids they hire. If you go into Yellow Springs, a lot of those places charge very high for wretched food and service, and don’t even seem to care. So this is not a YS tourist trap but it’s not fine dining either.

Fun for the Kids. We love Young’s Ice Cream and take our kids to the mini golf and feed the goats….They have a lot to offer…but food, is not one of their strong points. The best things they bring you are the complimentary appetizer plate (in place of rolls), which includes sweet potato bread (to die for), applesauce (chunky, homemade), and Slaw. The Cheese Curds are also good, but kinda pricy for what you get. Other than that…ugh. Steak was way over done, the fried tasted like freezer…My mother ordered a salad and it was way over dressed. My wife’s pretzel bun was had as a rock. Staff was friendly, and it is a good place for kids but we recommend eating elsewhere.

Golden Jersey never good. Steak, overdone, tough. Hawaiian meant raw onion, pineapple, and another red something on top. Cinnamon apples overdone, old, microwaved based on how they came out. Looked like multiple reheats. On several visits over couple years, food has always been lacking. Never asked at checkout about food. Just a cheerful acting guy who made sort of friendly comments without actually expecting answers. Waste of money.

Farm Circus. A very conservative restaurant. Minorities tolerated, not necessarily welcomed.
