The Schoolhouse Restaurant has been around a long time and is one of the only eateries in town that offers family style dining, which is pretty awesome in and of itself, but you add in the ambience of a civil war era building that once was a Schoolhouse in a rustic, park-like setting with a small farm and animals out back – well, you have the makings of a real winner of a restaurantUnfortunately, the food seems to take a back seat to everything else. It is traditional american classics in large bowls on a wooden lazy susan at the center of the table – fried chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, and the like – but none of it is particularly good. If they served better food, I am certain they’d be packed all the time, but with the food as it is, even with all the other nice qualities of this place, they dont seem to get a lot of business, which is a shame given how unique this spot is in all of CincinnatiIf you have kids with you, make sure to bring them to the back side of the parking lot where there is a small fenced in area with some animals. Two friendly goats the last time I was there
Amazing!!. I cannot put into words how absolutely amazing The Schoolhouse Restaurant has been to our family. They help us have the wedding of our dreams and it was beyond beautiful! They went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we had no worries. We presented them with tons of challenges and they handled them all with a smile. Their whole staff is truly an amazing family and they treated us and all of our guest like family! In this day in age it is rare to find such hospitality. Please keep them in mind for any occasion you may ever need, I promise you it will be an amazing experience! Plus chef Ryan has an amazing talent! Thank you to the whole Schoolhouse staff for a day we will never forget and helping us make some beautiful memories!!!
AMAZING!!!!!. I can’t say enough great things about this place! I walk in and I am treated like I’m part of the family! Chris and the whole staff are always willing to go out of their way to make you feel at home and make sure you have everything you want and need! The food is AMAZING always! Today would have been my dads 72nd birthday and it was a tradition to go for dads birthday so I made my way there and got some take out for the family! Thank you to all at the School house!
Over Rated Over Priced and Awful. I treated my family to Easter dinner at the Schoolhouse Restaurant, what a total nightmare. Reservartions were not honored, thirty five minute wait. The waitress got the order wrong, the food was cold and no flavor. Not to mention they added four to five dollars per entree than what is stated on there internet menu. Would you pay $20.00 for A terrible cold chicken dinner? I left upset and felt I had been scamed and overcharge by $50.00. Never again and I will spread the word.
Take the bike trail. Living on the west side of town, my wife and I used to enjoy a ride on the Loveland/Milford bike trail on Saturday and stop for lunch at the Schoolhouse. The trail goes right past the place. We haven’t eaten there for years but hope to put it on the schedule for 2015. Happy New Year!
Thansgiving Dinner at the schoolhouse resturant.. I looked forward to this day, and greatful went eith a party of four. We were escorded in right away and seated. They broughtsalads, and took our order for drinks. We had turkey white meat only. later brought veggs, and then broughy our dinner with dark meat, and said they would bring our white meat, because, it had just came out of the oven. It took a long time before they brought our white meat, and it was terrible it was left over scrapes. It would have been wonderful if we had gotten our meat first with our vegg. except there was not enought food for two people and we had four people. I asked for two littles slices of corn bread and she told me no. we waited 50 minutes for ou check, and ask twice. that is the first time i left hungert.
Simply Terrible. Twenty dollars per person for fried chicken that even Colonel Sander’s would be embarrassed to serve. Overcooked and my party showed up right at five. Green beans, corn and mashed potatoes were all canned (or instant, for the latter), though some added pork products doctored up the beans. Gravy was canned, or at least tasted bad enough that it should’ve been, had anyone actually expended effort making it. Stouffer’s makes better mac and cheese than what was served, which was so slimy that it had to be some kind of pre-packaged. The salad was nothing special and they have the gall to sell the mediocre dressing for $5 a bottle, which is fitting for a place that wants to charge $1 each for something as banal as corn fritters. $14 for MEATLOAF?This was something like my sixth or seventh visit over the years and my last. The chicken was never that great, but it was decent, especially for such a poor restaurant town as Cincinnati, albeit overpriced. I can deal with overpriced, if the food is at least good and the portions adequate. Portion size was adequate, but the food woefully inadequate. I also recall there having been more starters than lettuce salad with French dressing and coleslaw that went through a wood pulper. I haven’t been to the Schoolhouse since the fire and I wonder if the ownership changed, because that would explain why someone dropped the ball so miserably. That so many love this food pretty much confirms my perceptions about Cincinnatians as not being overly refined in terms of palate, even for down-home style food. Stroud’s would kill here, but this is a strange town that seems to despise the good for the mediocre, or worse, so it would probably fold if placed next to the Schoolhouse as the yokels rush to eat bad chicken and canned side dishes.
