Yikes. I must have eaten at another restaurant than the reviewers here. Yes, the service was attentive and friendly but the food was incredibly bland and uninspiring. If not for the industrial size squirt bottle of salsa on the table- so classy, I would not have been able to taste the three ingredients on my plate- meat, bread and cheddar cheese. I have to wonder if the flavors are dumbed down for Nerk taste buds. I just don’t get it? No offense to the hard working employees and dedicated family who has run this place forever- obviously they are doing something right but I will not be returning. I can roll up some plain chicken in a flour tortilla, and melt some yellow cheese on top just fine myself.

But my forever favorite beef and cheese sopapilla with plenty of hot sauce :)26 Nov, 2011You must stop at La Paloma in Heath whenever you pass by Central OH. Best Mexican-American food ever! Must have a beef, bean and cheese sopapilla! 5 stars!
Awesome!. Anyone who says this is horrible food is stupid and needs just to stay home. This is the best place in Ohio. We live in South Carolina and every time we are in town, this place is a must have. We used to live in Columbus and we would drive the 45 mins once a week. My grandma lived in Newark and as a kid, we would come to Ohio every summer. I’ve eaten here 100s of times and NEVER had a experience where I thought of writing a bad review. People that write a bad review on one experience need to have their internet taken away. Who does that? Get a life if you wanna write a bad review on one visit!!!!
Great food..it’s unlike any other Mexican you can get anywhere else. Try the chicken & cheese sopapilla. The hot salsa is killer!
What I miss after moving to FL. This is pretty much my all time favorite Mexican restaurant.Beef and Cheese sopapiilas are what I miss the most. They are basically an empanada, a nice flaky dough that surrounds lightly seasoned fried hamburger and yellow (colby I think) cheese that is deep fried to perfection, topped with lettuce and chopped tomatoes. It comes in all sizes from a little appetizer sized one to a huge one that fills a platter. And of course, that’s the one that I get! For extra goodness, I order a side of sour cream.I also usually start off with cheese nachos with jalapeno pepper slices. The other regular item I get (when I get tired of the beef and cheese sopapillas, not that often!) is the smothered burrito. A beef burrito smothered in green sauce and then a huge scoop of sour cream on top.For desert (I never get that far, but I know about them), they’ll take the same dough for the beef and cheese sopapillas and fill them with all sorts of different pie fillings (apple and peach come to mind, but I’m sure there are more), fry them up and serve them with ice cream.Every time I get close to there, I try to make it for at least one meal.I’ve been eating at La Paloma for over 35 years now. And loving it!Edit: I just returned from a trip where I ate there again. It’s still got the food down exactly as I remembered. Still one of my all time favorites.
Sopapillas are amazing!
