We went to Alfios a few days before Christmas for an early Christmas dinner with the family. The restaurant is located in Hyde Park square and I was lucky and got parking just outside the restaurant starting the evening in a good way. After we were seated we all felt it was a little too dark in the restaurant and the menus were way too large- minor points, but it had us laughing at the start. The food is both Italian and Argentinian. We decidedly to get empanadas and fried zucchini for appetizers and raviolis for the main course. I also got a poached pear and fig salad which was awesome. The zucchini had a nice batter that was crisp and flavorful. The short rib empanadas and ravioli were considered the best. Everyone thought the four cheese ravioli were good, but missing some flavor. I had the crab cake and shrimp – it was spicy but good. The wild mushroom needed a different sauce. Overall the food was well prepared and service was great. My two reservations- it was a bit spendy and the pasta was not consistent. Some of the ravioli were better than others. The pitfalls of homemade pasta. Definitely worth a shot.
