I’ve been wanting to eat here for a while and I’m glad I finally did. The fish and chips were great but the sides were just ok. I’d go back for some more.
I’d gotten a lot of bad to ‘meh’ word on this place, so I decided to check it out during the 3-7pm period when certain appetizers were available half price, to limit the hit to the wallet if the experience was as lacking as I had been led to believe. As such, the nachos were about 5 bucks instead of 10, and the beer cheese was 2.50 instead of 5 bucks. This turned out to be a wise decision as I have nothing good to reportMainly, the food was nearly tasteless. The beer cheese had little more flavor than flour mixed with water, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that flour is a component of this cheese. I will say the tortilla chips it was served with seemed to be fairly freshly fried and were nicely salted, but there were roughly twice as many chips as one could use to scoop up the serving of the dip. The cheese melted onto the chips on the plate of nachos was the mildest I have ever tasted. The chicken seemed to be completely unseasoned. The salsa that accompanied this dish was decent, and the beer cheese got a bit better when I mixed in some of the salsa The table I sat at had a sticky surface, and my waitress, who did not write down my order, was unable to repeat it back accurately to me. We went over it a couple of times and the I will say the order was delivered as requestedAs with all restaurants in and around Hyde Park Square, parking (particularly free parking) is difficult to find.Unless your are coming to drink and watch a sporting event with friends on one of the many large tv screens scattered around this establishment, I recommend you dine elsewhere
It is true that they have struggled to be consistent in their food quality. I would never say that it was bad. It was just merely average. Recently there seems to be a change. Not sure if it’s the hired hands or management. I do recommend if you had an average experience in the past that you give it another try. Ate there last Sunday for lunch. Everything was just as I had hoped. Fish and chips. Perfectly fried.
Great Beer, Food Needs Work. I’d come here any day for the beer selection. They have a ton of taps and it is one of the few places in Cincinnati that gets Three Floyds distribution. The food leaves something to be desired although I have yet to try the fish and chips which they are supposedly known for.
Tipping. The staff and product is always awesome, however, the managers are very rude about tipping. On more than once they insulted customers because their tip was not big enough. Where did this entitled attitude come from and why do cafes feel they are the privileged ones in the universe? A lot of service staffs don’t get tipped but they’re not rude enough to demand it either
Fish and Chips …fish and grease more like. We met friends on a very busy Friday evening , while the location is excellent that’s where the compliments start and end. Our server was so miserable and rude, he didnt care, just pay any attention to our table and looked like he would rather be having his teeth pulled than serve our table. The food was so disgusting it was untrue, the fish and chips were literally swimming ( pardon the pun) in grease, the oil tasted really off and when I picked up the first piece of fish the oil literally poured off it, it was inedible. I was really disappointed, I left nearly the whole plate – the server came over and asked if it was ok,. I told him that it was terrible and he just looked at me, picked up the plate and walked off, no apology, no can I get you anything else, no let me take that off the check…..nothing. I will not return ever to eat, they need to look at the fact that only 56% of the reviwers advised that they didnt enjoy their experience and work out a way to make the food and service better.
Terrible service, very slow to finally get average food. Waste of a good location.
