My recent visit to the Tavern. I’m from Alabama and Slyman’s is usually my first thought and my my first stop when I hit the city. I went to the Slyman’s in downtown this weekend ( Memorial Day) and it was closed. My cousin suggested that we try Slyman’s Tavern. It was a delight! The people were very friendly, the atmosohere is amazing and the food is exactly what I was expecting and remembered. I’ll be back!
Meh… It was like any other bar really. Its $15 for a Rubin or $12 for a tuna melt but you have to pay $3 for a side of fries. It was good, just not amazing. Service was fine not spectacular, the atmospher was comparable to a Pannini’s.

We also were anticipating the opening, but were disappointed! We were there the first night and were not happy with our corn beef sandwiches. They came out cold and were definitely not the size of the ones downtown. The meat was tender but on the dry side. I couldn’t believe that a member of management or an owner were not out in the restaurant talking with customers. This is not very good business practice for a new restaurant. I think if we went downtown and brought our sandwich home they would be hotter than the ones we ate in the restaurant.
