June 19, 2015 The Golden NuggetThe outer dcor does not do justice to the wealth of food history and taste that are housed in this building. Its Gold painted exterior is singularly adorned with the words The Golden Nugget. The name evokes visuals of the California Gold Rush. The restaurant was founded in 1962 but has moved to this new Moraine location a few years ago. You walk inside and see that there is a line of about 23 customers standing in line theme park style. The line moves very rapidly as you take in some of the scenery. The place is very well lit, clean, and the workers are friendly. The service was efficient. My waitress Sandy, was an extremely friendly multi-tasker who was able to hold a inviting conversation, explain the daily specials, all while continually refilling my coffee cup. There is an old chalk board listing the daily specials as well as a small placard on your table setting. I settled on the daily special of Corned-beef hash, eggs over easy, and three banana pancakes all for 6.72$. This was a good combination of savory and sweet flavors. Envision eggs Benedict on the table across from you, banana pancakes covered in walnuts, eggs over easy, and cheese grits beside you. Take a deep breath and you can smell the Columbian coffee percolating. If you close your eyes you just might hear the sizzle of the Maple cured smoked bacon in the kitchen. The food was amazing! The corned-beef hash included corned beef, petite diced potatoes, and onions. It was grilled with evidence of a slight pan seared crust. Allow the fork to cut into your over easy eggs just slightly as to let the yolk run over the hash. It is simply scrumptious. What stole the show were the Banana pancakes. The pancakes were fluffy, neatly stacked, covered in sliced bananas, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. After a healthy dose of butter and hot maple syrup, these pancakes transport your taste buds into another universe. You will not leave this place unsatisfied. The menu items are most all under 10$. The food is consistently delicious. Please visit the Golden Nugget and allow your taste buds to be excited, your wallet to remain full, and your heart satisfied. Just ridiculous !!. Arrived ready to enjoy breakfast ,was refused a seat after ten minutes because I was by myself, said they were full and they didn’t seat a single person in a booth because it was for families or couples , but I could see three or four booths available I said well I was in a hurry had to go to work ,there was no long line of coustomers waiting . I’m sorry but I’m not married and eat alone it’s just me ,why should I have to wait for a single booth if others are available ….. I’ve been there twice ,my first and last time .hopefully all of my friends read this on Facebook and I have hundreds Yvette stiles
Great non-chain breakfast spot with Southern Charm. I usually try to find Mom n Pop spots for breakfast when we travel. I was worried when I pulled up because this place is huge! When I walked inside there’s a line to corral you as you have to wait to be seated. That goes to show how amazing this place is. The breakfast was great. Staff was very friendly and extremely helpful and quick to seat you, bring you a drink, and take your order. We didn’t wait very long for anything and this place was packed! My favorite that we ordered were the Cinnamon pancakes and the home fries which are sliced fresh. I wish I had a bigger appetite because I would have tried a lot more. My only wish is that they offered single servings of pancakes. I was desperate to try just one buckwheat pancake but couldn’t get my daughters to share a short stack with me.My daughters loved the hostess and waitresses accents. We are far enough south to get the Southern drawl and they thought it was hilarious!
Been there…an original…. I’ve been eating at Golden Nugget since 1957. I grew up next to the Thomases’s/Serametis’s on Neal Ave. in Dayton view. Also…started eating at the other Thomas restaurant (The G& L) on Salem Ave. in 1957. That restaurant closed. I’d say that 58 years of eating at establishments owned by this family would give some credence as to how successful they are. They also owned the Elite market on North Main Street (around the Forest Ave area) for many years…as Grandpa Seramitis (spelling) ran that end of the family business. Son Greg owns and operates Doubleday’s on Alex Road…his younger sisters run The Golden Nugget.Maple syrup? Real maple syrup is thin…almost like water. Those criticizing their syrup are novices used to eating syrup produced by Aunt Jemima filled with corn syrup. This establishment has close to a century of history in food preparation of all sorts to be sold and enjoyed by their customers. Let’s make sure that you never make a mistake occasionally…as of course…you never have. Even I have been disappointed occasionally over 57 years with service I deemed below their normal excellence. Get over it and we’ll make sure it’s noted when you make a mistake.
Best place for breakfast and lunch. The Golde Nugget is one of the last family owned quality breakfast/lunch places in the Dayton area. It’s been around for years. Most people now think of Bob Evans or the Crackle Barrel for breakfast or lunch. The Golden Nugget has more selections at a better price with the same or bigger portions. The service is excellent. Your coffee cup will never be empty. It’s one of those sleeper restaurants you don’t hear about. Go there you won’t be disappointed. Pass it on to your friends.
