What a surprise. I went to this restaurant with low expectations finding it in a strip mall. The interior is wonderful and nothing that you would expect. The food is absolutely delicious and priced to make it affordable. The waiters are well dressed, polite and effecient. I have visited all three locations and they are equally wonderful.
What’s wrong with you Ohio people. That’s not Mexican food. I just moved her from So. Cal. And was reading reviews to get a good Mexican food and saw some of the reviews for El Picante saying it was one of the best in Cincinnati, so I tried it. Great happy hour prices on beer. Chips and salsa, so so. Food came out. Wholly crap. That is not Mexican food. That is someone’s Midwest imitation of Mexican food. I hope I can find real Mexican food in this area.
Great place!. Not much different than the other Mexican joints…pretty sure they all have the same menu! BUT…this one has an awesome friendly staff and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. We love hanging out at the bar and visit here often.
My favorite Mexican. I go out for Mexican at least 1/week. For 12 years. Been about every Mexican restaurant in Cincinnati from the times when there was just Don Pablos, Hotel Mexico, and Chi Chi’s to now where there is a great variety. El Picante is my favorite in Cincinnati. Let’s face it, most Mexican restaurants have nearly the same menu unless you go to foo foo Abuelo’s or something. El Picante has a vast menu, food is always excellent, service great, and price is just right. The nuances that separate Mexican restaurants are in El Picante’s favor in almost all counts. Negatives – so so atmosphere and a bit too much MSG laced adobo spice (but damn it tastes good). Who cares. Beer is cold, salsa tastes great, beans and rice perfect, and the food is to die for. Toss up between them and Taqueria Mercado downtown, but El Picante is closer to home so I vote for them for my favorite .
Best Mexican food in Cinci… Hands down! Friendly & fast service at a great price. A bit out of the way, but well worth the drive!
The atmosphere is pleasant, Food is reasonably priced and always comes out hot, and the service is awesome! Check it out!
Great food, horrid fellow diners. I just got back from dinner at El Picante with my family. The food and service were wonderful, however there was a large group of parents and girls wearing Cincinnati Soccer Alliance jerseys that completely ruined our meal. The restaurant is on the small side with acoustics not suited for 10+ screaming girls and 12+ drunk, obnoxious, ignorant parents unaware at all times of their children’s rude and disgusting behavior. The girls were running around the crowded restaurant throwing food and distracting the waiters from assisting other tables while the parents kicked back beer after beer in front of their children the whole time screaming and hollering like they were college aged kids at a frat party. We ate our food and quickly left, discouraged at the self centered attitude and lack of control of parents boldly displaying their team name. I jokingly thought of billing the Cincinnati Soccer Alliance for ruining our meal and tainting our opinion of this restaurant.
