Dear Toledo, you need some good Italian restaurants! Im not sure how Rosies or La Scola got such high ratings but both of these restaurants left us with nothing but regret. At least with La Scola I could eat my meal and didnt leave hungry. I will say that Rosies Margharita pizza was good and the lobster bisque wasnt bad (although it was a very thin base for being called a bisque), oh and the warm fresh bread basket was a very nice touch. The house dressing is unremarkable, just plain plain. My husband had an 18 ounce rib eye that was more medium rare than the rare he ordered but that he didnt want to complain. Unfortunately, the sherry reduction sauce on top kept him from fully enjoying the steak. A good steak doesnt need a sauce, in my opinion so I wonder why they added such a strong sauce. The steak was offered to him by the waiter off menu and they only had a few left. Either way, I had never seen my husband push mushrooms away from himself before as he did with the sherry mushroom sauce. I had grouper done California style. It was to be covered in salsa, avocado and Asiago cheese. Ill take the blame and just assume I dont like that combination but I wouldnt have liked their salsa on its own either. My other issue with the fish is that it’s advertised as fresh fish that’s flown in from Florida, but it really had the texture of fish that has been frozen and thawed. They don’t advertise it as NOT being frozen, so maybe I’m wrong in assuming that it was advertised incorrectly?? The worst part of the meal was the pasta. I ordered a side of linguini. It was gummy and gritty and I couldnt eat it and neither could my husband. I had been looking forward to dessert but our faith was shaken and after $92 worth of mediocre to inedible food we decided not to waste another dime there. My other complaint would be that it took nearly two hours for the meal and the bisque was just warm. This leads me to believe that our busy waiter wasnt able to get it to us before it began to cool.
