Friendly staff, mediocre cupcakes. The associates were very helpful, but I the cupcakes I brought home were just okay, which is a shame because I’m not very picky about sweets. I’ve enjoyed many a grocery store or betty crocker cupcake without shame. And I bake from scratch often, so I understand how using real ingredients not held up by soy based emulsifiers can get stale faster. Anyhoo, I got 4 different flavors; strawberry was the only one I cared for. The frosting on that one was nice- I could taste some real strawberry puree in it. They all had waay too much frosting, but I understand- thats what Gigis does. One of the four, a chocolate cupcake with salted caramel icing tasted so off-putting that I only ate a few bites then threw it away. It had a salty caramel/water bit inside and the cake itself was a bitter hot-water devils food recipe. All 4 cupcakes were a little on the dry side. I expected that a bit since the icing doesnt touch the edges, but sheesh, this is a national chain. They should know standard bakers tips, like using creamy fillings or brushing a little water on the edges to keep the cupcakes moist.

Just okay. When I tried Gigi’s Cupcakes I was expecting to be wowed. Don’t get me wrong they were tasty, and if you like a lot of icing this place is definitely for you. I got the famous Kentucky Bourbon Cupcake, and I enjoyed it. I purchased the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough for my daughter and she didn’t like and neither did I. I don’t like a lot of icing, but I found out in this case that was the only part that was really good. I was expecting the cake itself to be moist and melt in your mouth, but instead the batter was way too heavy. Cupcakes should taste light and fluffy. I prefer Abby girl Cupcakes where you get all these pluses and for a cheaper price Gigi’s is 60 more and not as delicious.

Great taste!. Had one of there wedding cake cupcakes today and it was to die for. the icing was the classic butter cream that actually tastes like the kind my grandma used to make from scratch! wonderful. deffinatly have to try the others!

Consistently good! Will continue to return!. This is a cupcake bakery. Expect frosting, expect big, expect elaborate and expect variety. I have had their cupcakes on several occasions: Mint Chocolate (my favorite), Wedding Cake, Scarlett’s Red Velvet, Chocolate Cola Cake, Midnight Magic (a chocolate with chocolate toppings). The cupcakes have been consistently firm to hold the frosting, but moist and spongy. The toppings are big and over the top…because that is what they do. And they are good at it. There is no aftertaste and the frosting tastes of real butter/buttercream. I have bought them for Father’s Day, birthdays and just to have-always well received. They are a nice, small gift that is reasonably priced but appropriately festive.

Fantastic!. There is no such thing as too much frosting. Let me repeat that for emphasis: There is NO such thing as too much frosting! My boss surprised us in the ‘boardroom’ yesterday with a box filled with supermodel cupcakes. Seriously, these babies are tall, gorgeous and almost too pretty to eat. Since I’m not big on chocolate, I made a beeline for the first white cupcake I saw. Let me tell you, there was nothing vanilla about my choice. The white chocolate macadamia is yellow cake with white chocolate and macadamia nuts inside then topped with a tower of cream cheese frosting, white chocolate curls and Hawaiian macadamia nuts. The best way to attack this amazon creation is to slice up the cake and spread individual layers of frosting, piece by piece. This also allows for prolonged gratification… ahhh yes. This beauty was almost perfect save for a slightly dry cake. But, the intentions (and proportions) were indeed perfect.I think I shall go try the Italian Cream Wedding Cake (Italian cream cake topped with cream cheese frosting and toasted coconut) today. Jealous? I thought so.

Cincinnati has better cupcakes. These are all about the icing, which is 2 inches high. The cake is an afterthought, and tastes like it, bland and a bit dry. The icing is overly sweet and tastes slightly fake, not like a real buttercream to me. We tried 6 flavors at work: Vanilla (very sweet, not much to it), chocolate banana (sweet but pretty good, though the cupcake is really like banana nutbread muffin), peanut butter chocolate (the cake had no flavor, the icing was good but too sweet), sea salt caramel (tasted like burnt coffee), strawberry princess (good but very sweet), and mojito (2 people got this, one said it was the worst dessert they’d ever tasted, the other said it was like they’d imagine drinking Tide detergent would be). So here is my current list of cupcake sources around Cincy, from best to worst: Sugar Plum, Abby Girls, Graeters, Gigi’s, Krogers/Meijers.

Very Sweet. The cupcakes were good but denser than I expected. I bought Kentucky Bourbon Pie, chocolate banana, mojito, chocolate chip cookie dough, and coconut cream pie. Nearly all the cupcakes were bread-like in texture. They reminded me of sweet muffins. The cupcakes themselves are very good but there is way too much frosting for my taste. The icing is so sweet it gives you a sugar rush. My favorite was the chocolate banana. It was a delicious banana flavor with a great (not so sweet) milk chocolate icing. I also really enjoyed the chocolate chip cookie dough – it was a great substitute to my favorite treat – a chocolate chip cookie. The others were nothing I’d head back for. I may go back for a special occasion but Abby Girl Sweets in my opinion has a lighter and fluffier cupcake.
