First time my Husband & I ate there and everything was just so amazing, best place I’ve eaten in a very long time. We will definitely go back. Also has a party room so may book one. Prices very reasonable and the salad bar was great. We went right before 5 so it wasn’t quite so busy. Just awesome.
Tasted like everything came out of a box. The servers were nice and polite, but there’s nothing else nice I can say about the place. The place is a little older and kitschy -but not the good kind of kitschy. The food was… well, the clam chowder was more of a veggie stew and little to do with clam chowder. My half BLT was on Wonderbread and I could have whipped it together at home. My molten lava cake tasted straight out of the box and cost just as much as my meal which is insane considering the pecan pie was half the price. The food was mediocre at best and I personally don’t understand the appeal of this restaurant.
Great service. I called ahead and spoke to Lou (who is AMAZING) and arranged to pay for my parents 42nd wedding anniversary. He made sure they had a wonderful night out and brought my mom to tears. Thanks Lou and the entire staff for your great service and the follow up call. My parents love this place and the food.
Don’t waste your time. Way over priced, small portions. You can get a better meal at the Outback Steakhouse for less money and leave twice as full.
Just okay. Went to the Houston for the first time last night with my husband and two children ages 4 & 1. It was around six p.m. and was filled with mainly older folks and the restaurant was about half full. It took awhile to get a waitress to our table and I ordered the Salmon entree along with the salad bar. There was a long line for the salad bar and it took us around five minutes or so until we got to the bar. Lots of items on the bar but not all were impressive. The deviled eggs were melted (or just extremely runny)and all the insides were all over the place. Basic lettuce/spinach option and several dressings which I saw them refilling from big commercial tubs. There were fresh strawberries and melon which my daughter enjoyed. The fruit cocktail was your typical canned version. There were beets as well which were good but I suspect canned as well. The pickled watermelon rind was interesting. All in all not a great salad bar in my opinion and you get a much more fresh one at Ruby Tuesdays. Anyhow the Salmon was a good size piece and had a Bourbon glaze to it which was pretty good. My husband had the fried whitefish and it was okay as well. The food is good, not great but good. I do not think we will be returning but am glad we finally tried it even if it was a bit disappointing.
The reviewer that said it was mostly older people eating here was correct. That’s not a bad thing but it does give some indication on the kind of food they have and the speed of service. I went for a lunch break and the service was good when we had service. My glass was empty a lot of the time and our food took a while to come out after we ordered it. The salad bar is very good though and has some nice toppings like blue cheese, fried noodles, and finely shredded carrots. The food is kind of bland and if I were to go back, I would just get a burger and the salad bar. If you have never been, its worth it just for the experience.
Not family-friendly. The Houston Inn is not a family friendly environment, it is mainly a restaurant for older, retired couples who like to eat in a very quiet atmosphere. I do not reccomend taking small children to eat here. The food is average, nothing to brag about and the service was average as well. The salad bar was good, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again.
