Mr. Zub’s Deli Kent State …. Mr. Zub’s Deli Kent StateHad to grab some lunch today and was out and about in the Kent State area. Heard that if you’re looking for a killer meal that https://www.facebook.com/mrzubskent is the place to go! Wasn’t hard to find, but found it strange that it wasn’t clearly marked where to go to get inside the place since the counter is inside a bar that is not Mr. Zub’s. I spent a few awkward minutes thinking I had to stand in the cold to wait on a sandwich, but then found out what to do! The environment was nice if not a bit loud for an empty bar @ noon. The televisions were turned up so you could hear them during the most packed hour of the night while everyone was cheering at the top of their lungs, but it was just my wife and I. Spent a good few minutes looking over the menu looking for some promising nourishment and enjoyed the whimsy of naming all the sandwiches after characters from films. Menu was laid out clearly and prices were reasonable and we settled on a ‘David St. Hubbins’ (Turkey, bacon, onion and chive cream cheese, on an onion bagel), a ‘Chunk’ (Tuna Salad, cucumber, radish, veggie cream cheese, on an asiago bagel), some fries, and an order of intruiging ‘Teezer Totters’. We placed the order and the staff was kind and informative asking us off menu options like would we like to add nacho cheese, chili, bacon, jalapeos, or onions to our fries… Yes! The answer was Yes! We took a seat at a booth on the bar side and didn’t wait long for them to deliver our food. It came wrapped to go which was nice because we ordered enough food for 4 people! We pulled all the food out and was genuinely impressed with anything we might ask for right there in our bags! Silverware, ranch, sour cream, and napkins all packed up like a college kids MRE! First let me say that all the food looked fresh and delicious on site which is always a good sign… No day old lettuce hidden at the back of these sandwiches! Additionally, and i know it’s dumb, but I love when a sandwich place throws a fresh juicy pickle in with the meal! It makes for an amazing palate cleanser going from sandwich to sides. The sandwiches were packed high on fresh bagels that even though they were dense and sturdy barely contained the mountainous quantities of turkey and tuna! My sandwich was smeared with a thick smear of cream cheese and piled high with griddle heated turkey. I assume because of the heat and light char on the meat (amazing by the way!). Another huge bonus point is this, the bacon was thick crispy and plentiful! Too many places skimp on the bacon when they offer it, and I know we’d all be fine paying a little extra in order to get the meal the menu promised and you have my word there was no skimping done! The tuna was just as wonderful. I’m picky when it comes to chicken and tuna salad and would rather pass than risk not eating it, but the wife’s sandwich was a fish of a different color! It was a savory recipe of tuna, onion, celery, and I’m sure other goodies tossed in a light mayo (by light I mean it wasn’t runny). The cucumber and radish gave it a great crunch and the cream cheese was a perfect compliment. I would say with both sandwiches the cream cheese was the best component adding a creamy component that many deli sandwiches tend to miss leaving you feeling like there was just something missing, and this experience felt contrarily satisfying! The sides were no exception the fries were big thick cut potatoes loaded and big enough for four people to share. The onion and jalapeo were chopped and fresh! Nothing out of a can went on this food! Bacon was actual pieces of the same thick crispy strips that were on my sandwich, and the cheese was mild and gooey, and the chili was rich and meaty not the runny hot dog sauce most places try and pass off. We both took turns digging in and experiencing the flavor emerging from the cardboard box! Lastly my personal favorite were the teezer tators! Little spearhead shaped pellets of gooey bliss! They were not a cheesy jalapeo topped tater tot like I was expecting, but rather a love child produced by the mad affair of tater tots and jalapeo poppers… The filling was a gooey cheesy mess speckled with pieces of potato and jalapeo all breaded and deep fried. I know I will return, but never without an order of these wonderful creations! Overall the experience was wonderful and was a great first stop in my culinary adventures in C-Town, but I will admit that I’m biased due to the fact that this type of place is right up my alley! Mr. Zubs I appreciate the excellent meal and hope that soon these words will reach the eyes of foodies all over the North East Ohio area! Atmosphere – Price – Quality – Taste – Service – Good Points- The pickle- The menu options available- The fresh ingredients – The little things that made all the difference (bacon!!!)- The staff offering options as I orderedBad Points- Unclear entrance making people feel kind of dumb- LOUD!!!
Nice. What a menu! Lots and lots of variety and everything is named for a tv/movie character. The decor inside reflects this, it’s really fun and cute. I had a falafel sandwich which was decent (falafel was a bit dry) and mozzarella sticks that were good but they were out of marinera (and only told us after making the sticks).. No big complaints, though. Oh, and the prices are very reasonable. Overall, solid and fun place!

This place….smells.. I have been to Zubs three times. Each time the food, and cleanliness got worse. The final time I went there, the cook was laying his head all over the counter in the kitchen, apparently he was tired. My mom didn’t want cheese on her sandwich but he’d already put it on. That didn’t stop him from removing the cheese. He picked it off, and waved it in the window for us to see that the cheese was gone. No gloves. Gross. I went to the fountain pop machine…and I gagged from the stench. I looked around for the rotten trash smell, and found it to be coming form the uncovered trash can under the fountain drinks. I didn’t feel comfortable drinking from the machine because I thought the lines in it were probably filthy. The trash absolutely reeked of soured food remains. I could smell it clear to my table. I went up to tell the employee at the counter, who was blissfully texting, that it needed emptied. Thankfully they took the trash out. I will never go back to this place again because I cringe thinking about it.
Great food. Awesome late night bar food. Great place to hang out and get a casual bite to eat before hitting the night life in highland square. The mac and cheese sandwich is TO DIE FOR!
A hang out for hungover college kids with no taste buds
Fan freakin’ tastic eats!
