Since I am commenting on Pizza in Miami Valley, we need to visit PPP Pappas Pizza Palace. One thing you need to be patient, the Pizza will not come out as a fast food pizza parlor… but you need to try this home grown pizza place, it is very good…..
Hometown and authentic. There are many anticoli dishes in the Miami valley area with certain crust tastes. If you ever find yourself browsing the menu at papa’s pizza I would suggest the deluxe with a sprite or pepsi. This pizza is delicious, and the flair adds a burlesque quality to your dining experience 10/10 for papa’s signature deluxe.
A Burg Classic. Two things from my childhood that immediately come to mind involve this place. FIrst, the wonderful smell of this place as soon as you walk in the door. Change in ownership back in 91′ or so resulted in a small change in ingredients and therefore a change in the smell but its still pretty close. Second is that little cowbell above the door to announce your arrival. Ding ding ding… then the smell hits you.As for the food, miami valley has some somewhat unique pizza (Marions, Rons, Cassanos, Papa’s) that you will find a hard time getting elsewhere. St. Louis has something kind of similar with a completely different cheese (provel) and areas of Michiigan have something similar but the crust is off. No-rise cracker crust, diced, canned toppings, grated sausage… sounds aweful, but it works perfectly when it all comes together. Papa’s has their own unique version of this rare pizza and I have always liked it. They also have a JTM-style steak sandwich that, again, looks completely uninspiering on paper, but wait until you find yourself craving them every other day for decades. Same goes for their submarines. Generous toppings and loads of fat from cheese and mayo. After abstaining for a few years from these I found it nearly impossible to finish one, but I still consider it to be one of my favorite comfort foods.Have not been in for a while, but last time it was white tile floor, wood paneling walls, red formica covered wooden benches screwed to the floor, and florescent lighting. Required for nostalgia, but pretty tacky if you are new to the place.
