Went to Cinque for Valentines Day. They have completely renovated the space that used to be Germano’s. Nice feel. Because it was Valentines Day, they offered a fixed menu with a few choices. I was hoping to get their gnocchi as the main course, so I needed to ask for a change – they accommodated my request. Started with prosciutto and parmesan, then butternut squash risotto, then gnocchi in 4 cheese and truffle sauce, and finally a chocolate truffle dessert. Each course was good but not great except the gnocchi which was phenomenal. I give my 4 star rating for this dish alone. The risotto was also good, but it had a lemony taste that would appeal to some, but is not to my taste. Overall a bit spendy, but the gnocchi is something you will not find outside of this owner’s group of restaurants. Cinque is a good addition.
Italian is not our normal first choice for a night out, but Cinque may have changed that. The food starting with the Scallop Crudo was outstanding and creative. The service was excellent and the overall quality of each course made the meal almost perfect.
We were seated on time at a table in a corner of the bar. There was a very noisy group at the bar but ones they departed, the noise level calmed down. It was a packed Saturday night! We all had Caeser salads and they were good. The sourdough bread served alongside was good but would have preferred the mixed basket they served when first opened and similar to what Nicola’s serves. Two of of us has the tagliatelle Bolognese and it was excellent – pasta cooked to perfection and tasty sauce. Another had the Cod special over white bean pure and one had the pork chops. Two meaty pork chops cooked very nicely. Service was excellent with Brian the manager helping the wait staff out. A great night!
A huge disappointment. The space has been renovated with a retro 70’s look and color scheme. They work well now but will look very dated when the 70’s craze is over. The acoustics in the dining room are the real problem. With only a few diners the space is fine. Once it fills with people you are assaulted with a wall of sound and it is difficult to hear the people at your own table. The tables are also too close together. The food was the largest disappointment of the evening. We started with fig and prosciutto bruschetta and the eggplant parmesan. The bruschetta had very little fig on it and the cheese used was bland. The eggplant parmesan was the stand out dish of the evening. It was a deconstructed eggplant parmesan so if you are expecting the traditional type, this isn’t it. It was chunks of eggplant, croutons, and fresh mozzarella in a tomato sauce. It was good. I had the frutti du mare spaghetti and my husband had the pork chop as our entrees. The spaghetti was piled in the bowl and topped with about eight tiny pieces of rubbery, overcooked lobster. There was no other type of seafood in the dish. The tomato sauce lacked any kind of seasoning and was bland. My husband said that the first half of his pork chop was meaty, juicy, and well cooked. The other half was all gristle. The prices are extremely high based on the quality of the food. The food was mediocre and the dining room was loud. We won’t be back.
Great evening. The restaurant is charming, the service is excellent and the food scrumptious.
