Groupon Pile-on. Mei Japanese Restaurant in Montgomery tonight was a zoo and I’d hate to see the place Friday, the very last day the Groupons I had bought were valid. I was not the only one who waited until the end. The place was packed. Three servers scurried the floor like squirrels scooping up and laying down, talking quicker than even I could fathom, and I didn’t want to spend ANY time talking. I picked a bad day to save my appetite for dinner. I arrived at 6:30 and saw no food until 7 and that was a salad and didn’t get up to leave until 8. Although the food was unobjectionable, all the hubbub about how hard they were working and how patient everyone had to be and the smell from the tepanyaki tables ruined dinner. Message: If you can’t take the heat, literally stay out of the kitchen. Don’t participate in Groupons if you can’t keep up with the business. They are meant to introduce folks to your place so they will want to return after you make a GOOD impression.
I can’t say too many nice things about Mei: an authentic Japanese menu with amazing seasonal specials daring you to step outside your sushi comfort zone (salmon skin special, burdock root seaweed salad), superb service, and expertly crafted gorgeous dishes left us feeling totally nurtured and sated. If you’re looking for delicious, fresh, clean, authentic Japanese food, this is the place for you.
Disappointment. Sushi was tasty, but nothing special and maybe a bit pricey. Teriyaki Chicken was pedestrian. No zip, little flavor, and certainly no juiciness. Only saving grace was the tempura. Won’t need to visit again.
Been here many years, but they definitely changed their portion – use to be bigger. I liked this place because it was more authentic, but with the new renovation to add hibachi, this place had turned into an Americanized jap restaurant. Sad.
Great Food and Service. I would rate Mei a 5 out of 5 for food and a 4 out of 5 for service. I love sushi and have tried all the sushi restaurants here in town and I must say Mei has the best sushi. It is fresh and always prepared well; the chefs are very good. If you dont like sushi you should try their different teriyaki entrees. They also have private rooms available for free. All you have to do is make a reservation and the room is yours. Lastly, the people who work there are very nice. I recommend Mei if your looking for a Japanese restaurant in Cincinnati area.
I from japan, that is the few authentic Japanese food you can find in Cincinnati, my company used it a lot for pravate party, when we spend time here, I feel I am in my country, one thing Mei need more Japanese server if they can.
