I visited Sushi Hana for the first time, Sat Jun 10. It turned out to be a horrible experience that I would never want to patronize there again. When we arrived, there were 3 other parties already there being serviced for dine in. A party of 1 at the sushi counter, a party of 2 seated in the main dining area, and a party of 5 also in the main dining area. No one greeted us upon entry and there was no sign to indicate wait to be seated so we seated ourselves in the main area. A young man came to take our drink order. When he returned, we were ready to order our food. I ordered the Hibachi Salmon meal with fried rice, no egg. He asked if I wanted shrimp, beef, or chicken. I said no meat, just vegetable fried rice and no eggs. He repeated it back to me, Hibachi Salmon with veggie fried rice, no egg. I said yes. I ordered another entre for my children with plain white rice. The young man goes back to input our order. This is where things really went awry. As we waited for our soup and salad, 2 people walk in at separate times for take out orders. It took a minute for the soup and salad to arrive. We finished this portion and 2 of us were low on our beverages at this point. After a little more time, a woman, whod been working the register, answering the phone, and bagging the take out food, delivered food to the couple sitting next to us. She noticed wed been waiting a while, our soup and salad dishes were done with, and we needed a refill (without us saying anything). She then came over and asked if we were only waiting on kitchen food. I said yes. She replied that the kitchen was backed up due to a couple of large take out orders who were here waiting. She asked if we wanted refills and cleared the bowls from our table. After about 20 more minutes, the young man brings a plate of rice to the table and places it in front of my 6 yr old son. I asked him what this was and he said its the fried rice. It looked like white rice with soy sauce drizzled on top; that was it. It had NO vegetables mixed in and it looked super sticky/mushy, as though the hot white rice was put in a pan and tossed with soy sauce. Fried rice is a little harder and should be fried after the rice is chilled otherwise it will get mushy. I reminded the young man that I ordered veggie fried rice with hibachi Salmon. He then says, the meal only comes with white rice. Bewildered why he didnt say this earlier when the order was placed, I stated that Id prefer fried rice and I dont mind paying a couple extra dollars difference for the fried rice with vegetables. He said hed have to talk to his manager about it because no one has ever ordered fried rice instead of white rice. That surprised me because I love sushi, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese food. Ive always had the option of white rice or fried rice. Some places may charge a little more (about $5) for the fried rice but its always been an option. The waiter walks back to the kitchen. We wait another 10 minutes before another part of our food comes out, which was my salmon and vegetables only. The other entre and rice had not arrived. We waited a few more minutes and the woman working the register brings a small bowl of white rice and said, heres one bowl of rice for now. We wait a few more minutes and she brings the 2nd entre only. I was still waiting for my fried rice. We proceed to eat. At this point wed been there over an hour. I prefer to eat all of my food together so I begin eating my salmon and vegetables slowly as I wait for my rice. I get half way thru my dish when I receive their version of veggie fried rice. It was still the mushy rice, some soy sauce, broccoli, and some frozen mixed vegetables cooked in. It was not good and I was beyond disappointed. An hour and 45 mins after arrival, I was ready to go. We waited for someone to bring our bill. At this point Id seen the other 2 partys checks delivered at their tables so I knew we didnt need to go to the register to check out. We were clearly done eating and had no more to drink in our cups. We were just sitting waiting for our waiter to simply show his face so I could wave him down for the bill. We waited anther 10 mins and finally just went to the register to check out. Another person was at the register at this point; our waiter was not in sight and the woman that was working the register earlier, was now behind the sushi counter with an older gentleman. I received my bill which was okay until I saw that I was charged $12 for a sushi hana fried rice entre. I advised them that I didnt get that and the gentleman asked me to wait as he went to find my waiter. I spoke with the waiter about the charge. I agreed to pay a few dollars more for the fried rice but not for a completely separate entre. The menu indicates that the meal comes with rice (it doesnt say white rice only), miso soup, and salad. To be fair, I should only have an upcharge of a few dollars. He said he had to speak with his manager. He walks over to the sushi counter and speaks to the woman from earlier. Everyone could hear the conversation because the restaurant to so small. As I stand at the register counter, I hear the woman say, were not going to void the charge just because she changed her mind. I then walked over and explained what happened. She interrupted me at least 4 times and was extremely rude. At that point I was frustrated because of the huge lack of customer service. Not only was my order messed up, we had to wait a much longer than normal wait time for everything and she knew it because she addressed why that was earlier. The food was brought out at various times and our waiter disappeared for most of the time wed been here. On top of that, youre trying to overcharge me for another entre. No Maam. At this point its not even about the money. Had I been advised at the time of ordering that Id have to pay $12 for a separate entre, then I couldve made my decision at that time. She then proceeds to go off on the waiter. I couldnt believe that she chose to discipline him at that moment in front of everyone in the restaurant. Clearly youre getting busy so it just wasnt the time nor the place. He didnt know any better but simply pulling him to the side to offer further training at a later time wouldve been far more effective than embarrassing him publicly. Although he wasnt the best waiter, I make it a point to tip everyone no less than 10%, obviously more for good and great service. I did still leave him a tip and hoped itd go all to him and none to her. The owner overheard the conversation and allowed the rice entre to be voided completely. I paid and dont plan to return. I only wish Id made note of their names for reference.
Staff is friendly. Sushi is good. Wait times are reasonable. Have I had better, probably but I also have had a lot worse. Solid place to get your sushi fix.
The service was horrible and slow, and the food was mediocre. We waited over an hour for just 4 sushi rolls, and paid way too much. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, and we will not be back.
From out of town. Having had eaten Sushi all over the Country, from NYC, Miami to Los Angeles, I was pleasantly surprised to find this near our hotel here in the Midwest. What the place lacked in atmosphere, it more than made up in taste snd price.
This restaurant was great a couple years ago, but the quality is now gone. Our server forgot our appetizer completely, the grade of the sushi was questionable, and the spicy tuna was just bland. There are better options in the area.
I am struggling to find anything positive about this place. The service was terrible – I waited at least 25 minutes to order, and another for the check. The quality of beef in our Bul Go Ki was some of the worst I’ve encountered. Our waitress forgot the soup and salad accompanied with our meal, and the general atmosphere left us feeling neglected. I asked for a side of avocado for my fiancee’s house salad, and it was though i asked for them to diffuse a bomb. Ultimately they made no attempt to make our experience a good one.
