Is It Possible For A Meat Eater To Like Vegan? YES! If he eats at Portia’s Cafe. Don’t get me wrong, I still eat the meat. But, Portia’s Cafe is a fantastic option for a lighter, healthy meal. The fetching Mrs. Rat and I were on a 21 day Daniel fast. No meat, no chicken, no fish or other seafood. Tired of juicing and sauteed greens & garlic, we decided to try Portia’s. We are glad we did. The food was very good, the service was great and the atmosphere was right on. The hummus and the falafel were tasty and the tahini sauce was pretty much the best I have ever tasted. The fetching Mrs. Rat had a Super Power Wrap, with guac, falafel, a couple types of sprouts, carrots etc. She also enjoyed a cup of the Raw Broccoli Soup.I had the House Speciality, Portia’s Pad Thai. Come on, you say, how can a vegan joint make Pad Thai? I asked that of our server, she explained and I took the bait. I am glad I did, it was very tasty, with fresh kale, brown rice noodles, miso, ginger to name a few. Will this become a regular stop for the fetching Mrs. Rat and me? Not really, we will come back a couple times a year when we do the Daniel fast. But I can heartily recommend Portia’s Cafe to anyone without any hesitation.
Wifey & I tried this cafe today. We called in a dinner order for carry-out and it was ready in 10 minutes. The burrito bowl & superpower wrap were delicious! We also grabbed smoothies for the road, which were great as well! Very affordable. I’m looking forward to trying more of the menu & also dining in sometime soon!
My parents have been eating here for a while, and told me that I would enjoy it. I’m not a vegan, but I love veggies! I was happy to forego the meat and potatoes and try some food that was healthy, prepared with care, and locally sourced whenever possible. I was also excited because I invited my longtime vegetarian friend and her husband to join us for dinner….surprisingly they had never been there. All the choices were excellent, my wife got Portia’s take on Pad Thai and I got the Savory Patty wrap. The food was awesome, and my friend was so happy to finally have a menu that she could choose from any of the items (and not have to ask a million questions about preparation and ingredients). Folks everything is fresh, organic, GMO free, and most if not all gluten free, We enjoyed everything we ordered and even passed food around the table so we all got to sample the different items. We had a blast, and the best part was you can bring in your own wine…..which you can purchase next door. My wife has already been back, and we plan on being frequent guests!
Juice. Green juice
Delicious!. I had the raw broccoli soup which had exquisite taste! I then had the house specialty with kelp noodles, again very delicious and wholesome. I spoke with other customers, many of whom dine in or out 2x/week. The service was excellent. Will I go again? You bet I will…tomorrow!
Fabulous GF and Vegan eats. We just went to Portia’s last week/very . It was amazing GF and vegan. Very flavorful soups, wraps and I was able to get cheesecake:-)!!! I am strictly GF and DF. Such good food our entire party enjoyed dinner. We will be back to try more goodies on their menu.
Don’t knock it ’till you try it. I’m not a vegan or even a vegetarian, but I am what I consider to be well-acquainted with meat-free food. Have been enjoying Portia’s to-go options from the Clintonville Co op for some time so when I heard she was opening a while restaurant, I was excited. For those of you who went when it first opened and weren’t so sure you’d go back, give it another try. I’ve been twice now and the food hasn’t changed (consistently good!) but the service was much improved this time around. About the food – All I can say is that the things I’ve tried are the stuff cravings are made of. The cold broccoli soup is AHH-MAZING. I would’ve had it last night, but the wife wanted to split chips and guac. The house-made guac is the best I’ve ever had, short of smooshing the avocados myself at home. We used to pick it up from time to time at the Co op (when it wasn’t out of stock!) and it’s never disappointed.Entree-wise, on both visits I’ve had the no-tuna wrap. I’ll say this – if you didn’t know it wasn’t tuna and nobody told you, you’d never know the difference. This concoction of hers, served wrapped up tight with a Bubbies pickle in the middle, has taught me that I should never, ever eat a tuna sandwich without pickles. And do yourself a favor and pay for the optional gluten-free wrap. It has a delightfully light texture and is yet somehow strong enough to hold all the good stuff in.Price-wise, we spent $30 for two entrees, an appetizer, and two coffees, and we were full. When you consider how much you’d spend at say, a bar and grill, for junk food and beer, $30 really isn’t bad at all. Honestly, I prefer to pay a little extra and know that what I’m paying for is worth the cost.
