Yummy red bean cake.
Fresh, surprising, well-executed. We took our boys there for lunch Saturday. I was a little concerned that they would be able to find anything on the menu that was familiar (western) enough for them to enjoy . . . no problem! One of them had the tomato soup with toasted bread, and the other had a classic turkey/cheese sandwich. Husband had a very interesting dish called the doria–ham, pasta, rice, topped with mozzarella. Somehow it worked very well. I had the fish sandwich: super fresh and tasty. There are a lot of appealing things on the menu I’d like to try next time. The cafe itself has an economical, immaculate quality that is very reminiscent of Japanese cafes. I’d think that if you’re Japanese and are feeling homesick, this place would be a comforting haven.
Asian-style baking is a little different than the usual American or European style in that it is not overly sweet or rich, and the textures are light and moist. Belle’s has excellent breads and pastries, desserts, and coffee, and very inexpensive for the quality! The best raisin bread I’ve ever had, and the choco horn is delish!! They also have a small menu of sandwiches and other light meal items that look great but haven’t tried yet. The counter staff are friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is comfortable. Free secured wifi too. The place has been very busy every time I’ve been there, so I’m not the only one who thinks it’s good! My only wish is that they would stay open at least a couple hours later–they close at 7:00. Would be PERFECT to drop in for coffee and dessert after dinner at Akai Hana!!
Clearing up misconception. Crescent is unfortunately still closed as far as their normal bakery, although they have opened a cake store in a Chinese restaurant off of Perimeter loop. I just wanted to clear up–the Belle’s Bread that opened in Crescent’s old location is not the same store. It is owned by different people and sells different products. Please come back somewhere with your full bakery Crescent–your pastries were delicious!!
This restaurant has expanded and changed their name to Belle’s Bread. They have most of my favorites from when it was Cresent, except the egg and curry. Please bring it back!!!
Great Japanese-style Bread. I got this cafe’s bread from a little Japanese grocery store in Pittsburgh and absolutely love it! It’s cut thick and reminds me of my stay in Japan.
