Superb Duck with the Lyonaisse Potato and wonderful French mushroom stuffing.31 Jan, 2015Superb French Cuisine. Without doubt the best meal I have had in Columbus since I moved here in April 2014.The service was second to none and the food was superb, some classic French cuisine dishes which played with your taste buds.It was a birthday dinner for me from my lovely wife and our evening was truly magical. From apps to desserts everything was perfect and the pairing wines with each course were sensational. We had the following,Apps Cold Foie Gras, Veal Sweetbreads, Warm Foie Gras.shared the Mussel soup.Mains, Whole Dover Sole and the Duck.Dessert, Creme Brulee, Chocolate Granache Cake.We booked to return for a jazz evening in early March we were so impressed, with a prix fixe menu. Can’t wait.
Great restaurant. We went on a Saturday for their Harvest pre set menu where they had a cold smoked salmon, rainbow trout, duck, beef shoulder steak, and creme brle or Carmel cheesecake. The food was real good, waiter was really accommodating and we sat next to the fireplace which was nice and toasty since it was a chilly evening that night, very professional establishment. They gave us a pairing wine during our steak course on the house which I thought was fantastic, all in all its one of the best restaurants that a small city like Columbus has to offer.
Too expensive for the food. Nothing I ordered really impressed me. This is still a great place for fancy date. Wonderful atmosphere and servers are very helpful. The food is elegant just fell flat in flavor for me.
Great ambiance, great food, great service as always! A fail-safe place for special (or even not so special) occasions, for your special one!
So this was my fiance and I’s all time favorite restaurant for the longest time.Being a young couple we didn’t go often usually only on special occasions actually. But we’ve made many memories here, in fact he proposed after dining here! we loved the restaurant so much at one point that we approached kamal about having our wedding there! Due to miscommunication ( which I might add kamal handled a distraught stressed beyond belief bride quite beautifully) we weren’t able to make that dream come true. Did it rub me the wrong way that it didn’t happen….yes. But I do truly hope to be able to enjoy this wonderful restaurant again. The duck as everyone knows is amazing and it’s accompaniments change seasonally (it’s like Christmas year round!) so definitely try it I’ve also had the quail, scallops, and the veal duet all almost never disappointed! My fiance regularly ask to go there when we have guest, birthdays, business functions etc,he’s always looking for an excuse! Side note: kamal really was sweet when I called about the miscommunication and I was happy I talked to him personally and not an assistant. He apologized profusely and asked my address so that he could send out a courtesy to somewhat rectify the situation! It’s personal touches like this that make The Refectory one of the best places in Columbus to dine. I hope to get back to the restaurant a few more times before we move out of state. I can definitely say the atmosphere, food, and people at the restaurant all come together to make a wonderfully magical evening!:) Now I’ll just go back to stalking my mailbox for this courtesy lol!
Fine Dining. Consistently the finest dining experience since returning to Ohio. The Escargot is incomparable!
Get the Duck. The chef has a specialty in game animals. The duck was absolutely delicious. It is expensive, though, and it’s the sort of place where the servers will fold your napkin if you get up from the table. Wear business casual at least so you don’t feel under-dressed. And get the duck! Also, if you can go the week of Dine Originals, the $35 prix fixe menu is definitely a bargain.
