Wake up America. I can’t believe anyone would give this restaurant more than a 2. You can smell the coffee but at $3.00 a cup, I would go with the water. I mean, what do they have to do to get this kind of price for a cup of coffee. Wressle giant anacondas while trudging through narco controlled fields of coca trees. What coffee bean are they using. A cross breed between Kopi Luwak and the finest Columbian and Brazilian mix. (I looked up expensive coffee and the Kopi came up first) My wife and I were looking for a different breakfast place. I was the one who suggested we try this place so that’s what we did. I knew it was going to be pricy but with good food it’s worth it. I ordered a ham and brie waffle with a pesto spread. Hey chefs, I understand that you want to put together the next great food combination but please taste it first. It made my wife gag when I made her taste it. It was probably the worst combination of ingredients ever put together. The waffle was dry and crumbly. It had a sweet glaze over the top and don’t get me started on the brie. Don’t leave the rind on it. I don’t know of one person that doesn’t dig out the centre of a brie wheel. Then came the pesto, you can’t even imagine how it tasted when all came together. I had to take a second bite just to make sure it was that bad. My wife had the hot ham with gruyere and goat cheese. Not a big fan, a lot going on there too. We also ordered frites, just call them what they are and that is FRENCH FRIES. Restaurants stop using fancy words like brioche, and frites just to jack up prices. Its bread and french fries. I wasn’t going to complain but when our waitress came my wife said that has got to be the worst sandwich and we needed to send it back. I ordered the ham and cheese. So with the said I was charged $10.50 for each ham and cheese, $6.00 for the french fries, $3.00 for each cup of coffee and $2.75 for the coke to wash out the bad taste in my mouth. With tax it came to $38.25 but don’t forget the tip which brought the grand total to $45.00. I told my wife to shoot me in the head the next time we spend $45.00 on breakfast.
I have been to Taste of Belgium in OTR, so I decided to try out their new branch in Norwood. Our family had the waffles and chicken and the grilled chicken sandwich . Both were excellent. We also split an order of mussels and frites. The mussels were good – tomato based sauce. The frites were just ok. Expected much better considering this was a Belgian cuisine place. Service was good. He was really helpful going through the menu items. I loved the big window/door that can turn indoor space into outdoor space. I will be back.
Had omelette of the day: spinach, mushroom and Gruyere cheese. Huge, fluffy and overstuffed. Couldn’t eat it all. I’m not a big fan of French fries at breakfast, but these fries kill. Crunchy outside, tender inside. Don’t tell my dietician. Coffee bold, but not too strong, even for a weak coffee guy. Even the remoulade, which I couldn’t figure out, added a kiss of kick to the omelet. My only knock is that the kitchen-to-table time allowed the food to cool slightly. $10 for meal, $2.75 (?!?!) for coffee.
Good, popular restaurant. Dined here over the weekend & it was very busy. Sat at the bar because they were on a wait. On the downside, our service was very slow – waited forever for an approach, then forever for our drinks (craft draft & Bloody Mary). I let this slide, cause they were very busy. To top that off, the bartender forgot to put our order in once we ordered! Waited for 1/2 hour and about the time our food should have come out he came over and told us that he forgot and apologized and said he would expedite our food. At this point I do think he should’ve comped both of our meals, but it was not offered. Our food came out very quickly and was very good. I ordered the chicken & waffles, and my friend ordered the brunch burger (which is not on their weekday menu btw). The mix of a Belgium style waffle with a fried chicken breast topped with hot sauce AND maple syrup was decadent. It came with a nice lightly dressed mixed green salad which I barely ate because I couldn’t stop eating the chicken & waffle! My friends entree was a burger topped with thick bacon, havarti cheese and between 2 Belgium waffles served with a side of maple syrup for dipping. It came with fries and a Cajun/chipotle mayo for dipping. All in all it was good, and I would return, just hope service is better next time.
The food is fine. It’s nothing special. Omelettes, breakfast sandwiches. They do some neater things like smoked salmon baguette. I just don’t get all the hype about it.
Taste of Belgium Norwood at Rookwood offers excellent food and service at reasonable prices. The chicken and waffles plate is its signature dish and to die for with a perfect blend of sweet syrup snd hot sauce balanced by a salad with blue cheese crumbles. The servers are friendly and exceptionally helpful. Everyone goes out of their way to to accommodate guests.Overall, Taste of Belgium Norwood provides a consistently wonderful dining experience for breakfast and for lunch.
