Sad to see the new manager let it go down so fast!. I’ll start by saying I’ve enjoyed the Crows Nest for the past couple of years. The food has always been consistent which is hard to find in this vacation area. However the last two visits have been far from enjoyable. About a month ago my wife and I went to the Crows Nest to enjoy a cheeseburger and beer. The service was good but the burgers were over cooked and the buns were hard. I wrote it off as just one bad experience. So last week we went back. It started with the waitress acting like she was pissed off that she had to wait on us. We both ordered the same cheeseburger and beers. The burgers were so burnt on the outside that it left a nasty burnt taste in our mouths. We both had 3 bites thinking it might get better but the it got worse. I drank my beer after the second bite to get rid of the taste. We both pushed our burgers to the edge of the table and waited for the waitress to return. About 20 minutes later a man named John came to our table and asked if everything was good. I told him of our experience and showed him the burgers. He said that he wasn’t surprised because when he was in the kitchen he noticed the cook had a huge flame on the grill. He apologized and said he would talk to the cook. About ten minutes later the waitress came by and gave me the bill. Yep, you guessed it…. FULL price for an uneatable meal. Now understand I would have been ok with paying for the french fries and beer but pay for a burnt burger… So, I payed the bill and went to look for this John who I presume is the manager or owner. I found him outside sitting at the tiki bar like everything was ok. I went over to speak with him but when he saw me coming he came to me. I told him how disappointed I was for paying for an uneatable meal. He just looked at me with a blank stare. He acted like he was pissed off that I complained. If you are in the area I would avoid wasting you money at the Crows Nest.
New Managers, New Menu, Fantastic Hospitality!. John & Marla – New managers of the Crows Nest have really stepped up when it comes to creating what the customers want! Daily Dinner Specials are a big hit with Half Off Appetizers and Dinner specials like $5 Steak and & $9 Rib specials, and the specials don’t stop just because Happy Hour does! Valentines Day Dinner Special was incredible! Colossal Shrimp Cocktail for two, 2 lb. New York Strip, a baked potato the size of Idaho, a crown of Broccoli. Plus, dessert and a salad were all fantastic! Service was on spot and the John the Manager personally came over to make sure everything was good. Can’t wait to see what they come up with for Spring Specials.
Food and Apps. Sadly, I didn’t dine, but the two people I was with really enjoyed their baked wings and their walleye bites. The service was really friendly, but our server had to run back to the bar area two different times to clarify a question for me regarding the vodka they offer. I wouldn’t mind stopping back at Crow’s Nest next time we are up that way to give the food a try.
Only three servers, 20 minute wait for a table on Sunday evening. Restaurant 911 needed here badly.
Never Again. 4 of us ate there Saturday night. NEVER AGAIN! 20 minutes to get a drink to start. Rolls were cold, baked potatoes with cold centers, french onion soup had lots of cheese and way too many croutons (soggy bread soup). My favorite Betty salad was terrible. I think they mixed the lettuce with the dressing 3 hours earlier. Once we got our drinks, one was wrong. Now for the coup de gras. Our bill came to $106. I had a gift certificate for $125 that was purchased July 2011. Before we went there, I looked up the gift cert. law for Ohio. O.R.C. 1349.61 states that a gift cert. cannot expire for 5 years. I printed a copy just in case & took it with me. The manager, Brian, came to our table to refuse the cert. I showed him the law. I also told him we tried to use it over the winter but they were closed. He denied being closed. He finally told us to leave and so we walked out without paying (because my son paid when he bought the cert.). I hope our server got her $19 tip.
