The wife’s new favorite place!. For years I’ve driven right past El Portal because, well, it used to be a McDonalds and I figured there’d be a huge Ronald inside wearing a sombrero, and it would be brightly lit with tons of screaming children and no liquor license. But based on these reviews we went last night. Ambiance is very important to me, and El Portal is very nice with only a trace of what it used to be. The service was very quick (almost too quick) but it wasn’t very busy at the time. My picky eater wife proclaimed her dinner the best Mexican food ever (enchiladas, side of refrieds) and mine was excellent as well (burrito Jalisco with side of guacamole.) Good portions; we took home half of our dinners, and priced about the same as other sit-down Mexican places. We’ll definitely be back, especially to try out their inviting patio when the weather gets warmer.
So good. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant! Their chicken is just fantastic. The staff always remembers us and has always been friendly. Everything is good there.
Absolutely Fabulous!. IMPORTANT!!!: My review is POSITIVE, I can’t figure out how to edit it from being negative. I lived in Columbus for 8 years and never discovered El Portal until I came back for a visit this weekend. It’s one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had! The service and food was wonderful!!! I will highly recommend El Portal to my friends who still live here.
I love El Portal! I’m from Texas, so I have high standards for Mexican food. El Portal is always good! The take-out orders are occasionally botched but we deal w/ that b/c we love the food! I recommend this place to anyone looking for good Mexican food in the Reynoldsburg area!
Fabulous!. El Portal’s staff is always polite. The food is great (the enchilada sauce is incredible!) and arrives quickly.
Excellent. You might miss their old faded sign & have to circle back around, but it’s worth it.For the past 10 years I’ve been disappointed with most Mexican places in Columbus. Then an 80-year old man recommended this place.Usually no wait for a table and the food is always excellent. The staff is very friendly & will remember you after a couple visits.
Best in town. Our family has been going to El Portal since they opened- our young adult kids always pick El Portal when we ask where they want to go to dinner. The food is authentic and very tasty and the service is excellent. I would recommend the chicken pollo.
