September 6, 2010. I have been a customer of Big Al’s for 16 years. Well today I went to purchase lunch for carry out. I ordered a cup of coffee and the Works Omelette, then sat at the counter until my order was completed. The service was horrible, they were several gentlemen that were down on their luck asking for a job applications. They were standing behind me, while I sat waiting to place my order. Once the server gave them applications, instead of taking my order she asked if I needed an application?! Then once my order was completed by the cook it sat on the ledge for a extremely long length of time, I had to request my meal. Then the one server seemed to be under the influence of an altering substance, and the other two servers were in training. While they ate their food at the serving station, they didn’t even notice several customers whom slipped out on their bill. Then when it was time for me to purchase my meal, no one was at the register. Once, at the register the waitress just starred at me with an attitude?? So I said, I am willing to pay you, if you tell me my balance on my bill. This is the worst, most unprofessional experience I have had at this Diner. If this continues to occur the Diner will eventually shut down. I am and always have been a fan of Big Al’ s Diner. But, after lunch today I will never return!!!!!
Diner perfect. I have eaten here a few times, and have enjoyed the atmosphere and food. There is no pretension here, nothing fancy. Sit down, get some good and hot coffee, order some food, and eat. You’ll leave full. What more could you want from a diner?
Out with Lady K asks..Is Michael ever wrong?. Ok–Michael Symon said to go, so I went…on a sunny Wednesday morning–walked in,immediately told to sit where I want, immediately served piping hot coffee..then went right for the placemat menu and ordered the cornedbeef hash—not to be mistakened for the sliced corned beef and potatoes (I’ll get that next time) –family owned and worked..I loved the easiness that mom and daughter displayed in not only taking in phone orders but keeping me satisfied and other’s that walked in as well–.My advice to CCF…go to McDonalds for that assembly line multiple order speediness–this food at Big Al’s is made to order–fresh of the grill or out of the pot—there is a sign that says that..and I was happy to see it! If any of the demanding employees at CCF ever took time to travel up thru the inner city to get to Big Al’s they would already know that and not knock them for being a cut above the rest—- I probably would never go on a Saturday because of their popularity & good food, I can imagine this place would be packed..so I’ll stick to my once in a while weekday mornings and experience this special breakfast treat without the crowd!!!
Diner Diving. This is exactly what you need for the morning after bar hopping. Great food at great pricing….especially the Specials!
Not great…could be better though.. Huge portions–my omelette was bursting with diced ham, peppers, and onions. A unique take on hash browns (mostly chopped french fries, cooked crispy).Unfortunately, the wait staff and cleanliness did not come close to meeting expectations. Several were chatting on their phones while walking through the store. No one checked in with us. We had to ask for drink refills. Went to pay, cashier did not even greet us…simply took check, money, and told us to have a nice day.Easy fixes–a bit of a cleaning, smiling, and being friendly–would go a long way here.
Would never give them my money. We recently called Big Al’s to order food to say thank you to the staff at cleveland clinic. When we called to inquire about ordering a spread they laughed at us and were rude and dismissive. Instead of being helpful their attitude made it easy to say I would never give them my support. I would rather go to Jacks any day.
Some of the best food around!!! Especially for breakfast. Been here 20+ times and have never had anything we didn’t like. Big servings too! Try the chipped beef or pecan pancakes!
