A Hearty Breakfast. Our golf group travels to various cities and we try to find local restaurants to taste. Springfield and Englewood, OH were on our agenda this trip. Had breakfast here bothdays and was impressed with their breakfast buffet. Food was excellent, service was great, and the hotel exceeded our expectations. If our scheduling were different, we would have probably had dinner here. I’m sure it would have been terrific if breakfast were any indcation.

Best Filet I have ever had.. I caught wind that Chef Eric Smith at the Mela Urban Bistro made a filet that could bring a tear to your eye so i had to try it. My significant other and I made reservations for 2 on a Friday night. The restaurant is in a Marriott Courtyard Hotel in downtown Springfield and let me tell you, this isn’t your everyday Courtyard. We were greeted by an amazing 3 story mural on the neighboring building and a beautifully kept fountain are. Inside, beautiful artwork decorated the walls and even Chihuly inspired glass throughout the hotel and restaurant. What a hidden treasure. Our server was polite and helpful. I explained to her that we had come to the Mela to meet Chef Smith and try his amazing filet. He actually came to our table and explained to us what had inspired him to create this particular dish. He was very informative and highly knowledgeable. He explained to us how the earthiness of the asparagus paired with the truffles in the mashed potatoes created the perfect stage for the boursin crusted filet. He then recommend the scallop special he was running for my wife. I cannot describe for you here how wonderful our meal was. The filet was a perfect medium rare, properly seasoned, grilled to perfection, nice and buttery. The Boursin cheese on top was melted and mildly golden brown. The asparagus was well seasoned, tender but still a bit snappy, and the mashed potatoes with truffle oil were divine. My wife’s meal was equally superb. Scallops were perfectly seared and quite huge. Very nice for a mid-west restaurant. The tomato-Parmesan cream sauce was velvety and subtly spiked with cayenne. We drank a bottle of wine and had one of the best meals that we’ve had in a long time. When you go in ask for Chef Eric and he will take care of you. Very professional, sincere and knowledgeable. I can’t quite remember our servers name but I want to say Dixie. Very attentive and charming. Keep it up Mela! We will definitely be back!
