Thought about finding a decent not chain restaurant. This is it. Great nondescript place with fantastic wait staff. Hummus is great and the grape leaves are pretty tasty too just add a little squeeze of lemon to them. The steak my husband ordered medium rare was cooked fantastic and my chicken tips with hummus was wonderful. The chicken was very moist and flavorful. Definitely a place to return to.
Staff is very nice but all the food we had wais very oily, too oily, and more like butter instead of fresh olive oil. It’s not real Mediterranean food, but seems to appeal to the elder folk like my mom. The salad was a limp pile of iceberg lettuce with stale crutons.
Fine. I thought Ahmed’s was solid. The vibe of the place is throwback neighborhood steakhouse. It feels like the kind of joint where they have a solid core of patrons who eat there regularly. I took my family (which includes two under 4 years of age). The kid’s menu is pretty predictable, underwhelming. My 3.5 yo ordered Mac & Cheese and applesauce. The M & C looked to be from a box. He liked it well enough. He also liked the complementary pita.My wife ordered the chicken kabobs. She thought the chicken was OK. We both enjoyed the rice pilaf – probably the highlight of the meal.I ordered the chicken breast entree. I thought the chicken was pretty good; the sauce was good. I wasn’t blown away but I wasn’t disappointed either. The service was good and friendly.I think if everything was a bit less expensive I would have been more impressed. For the money I think I could do better but it’s not bad by any means.
The Best!. Have been going to Amends for years. Great food great service! One of the best in Toledo.Try it you will not be disappointed!
Eat Across the Street Instead. We used to go to Ahmed’s for the grape leaves and other Mediterranean specialties. The spousal unit has enjoyed kabobs and grilled chicken, but I can’t take any more of the garlic butter they baste onto the meats. The grill is permeated with the residue, so even when I try to avoid getting the sauce, it’s on my dish anyway. (I have a neighbor who also requests they leave off the garlic baste). I’m a big fan of garlic — I grow it and eat it all the time — but their special sauce is (perhaps) a chemically-enhanced oil. For tasty, more pleasantly-seasoned food, and no waiting, try Ya Halla across the street. Having said all this, I have to admit Ahmed’s is a neighborhood favorite, always full of families and groups celebrating special occasions.
Good food, friendly service, reasonable prices, & simple but pleasant decor
