Down home cooking. BEST pancakes. Depending when you go sometimes they might only have one waitress so you might have to wait an extra minute or two for a drink refill but be patient I’m sure she’s busting her butt running food out. The cook is this little Asian man and he comes out from time to time to check everything. It’s just a great place to sit and talk and enjoy your time and some good food. I’m lucky to live so close.

Bad ownership. I have over 35 years experience in every aspect of the restaurant industry, what I experienced tonight at Generations Family Restaurant on Alexis Rd. was possibly the worst dinner and service I have ever encountered. We walked in and was greeted by a loud argument between customers, a server and what we would later discover was the owner. That should have been a sign to leave but we didn’t. We seated ourselves and waited several minutes while the argument continued before menus were even presented to us. In the meantime, we observed another two customers leave because no one had approached them after what they claimed was 20 minutes. Our server was visibly shaken after the confrontation but that aside, service, along with the food was far from acceptable. There were few customers left at this point but our appetizer took longer than necessary to arrive. Nearly 30 minutes after ordering our entrees arrived and the server was ready to walk away before I asked if my dinner guests would be getting the salads that should have proceeded their dinners. She returned with 1 extra salad and offered no explanation. My burger was very well done, the fries were also and the steak at the table was over cooked to well. Our server took our glasses to refill soda and returned them without straws. During our dinner we tried to joke with her and make her feel better after the prior confrontation, while she opened up about some of the situation she also shared with us perhaps too much information about her boyfriend, her need for a cigarette and having to go to the restroom. She eventually did go outside for a cigarette and smoked right outside our window and tapped on the glass while we dined. The final insult was when the management and I use the term loosely, refused to accept a gift certificate that was printed online less than 30 days prior and clearly states that it does not expire. Not only did he refuse to take it , he did it in the nastiest and rudest way possible. He had no intention of trying to make his costumers happy despite have numerous other ones leaving his establishment in mass all evening. I know there are often circumstances that costumers don’t see behind the counter but there is NEVER a reason why the guest, that pay a businesses bills should be treated that way. Give the guests what they want and then fix the situation. I feel somewhat bad for the server despite her ma and pa diner service style, and I left her nearly a 20 % tip but only because she indicated that she would have to pay for anything that is wrong with her checks, she did not deserve that treatment, and as I told her when leaving, I do hope she finds another job working in a cleaner place with better management. needless to say, I will not be returning to this neighborhood establishment and will encourage others to do the same. We dine out 1, 2 or even 3 times a day, seven days a week and cant understand how a place and a guy like this stays in business when so many others struggle and fail. Please boycott this man and his soon to be doomed restaurant.
