My family came to visit Toledo to see family members and we went to this location to eat dinner on Saturday January 21st The restaurant looks great from the outside we went inside and spoke to the guy at the front us and we decided to eat it once we started walking to the dinette area we noticed a lot of trash on the floor as if they did not clean up the trash left by customers who just ate. We proceeded to our table however the waitress was not dresses appropriate she had on UGG shoes and tight leggings and a apron. We sit down and I noticed that my silverware wrapped in paper had food stains on them so I asked for another set. The menu is traditional menu for soulfood restaurant a lot of fried food one thing that I notice that they cook all the traditional greens, beans etc with pork. Well we do not eat pork and across the country many soulfood restaurants are using turkey hint.We placed our order and one thing we took notice that it took a long time for the items to be cooked there were only three tables of customers and all of them had already received their food so it shouldn’t taken the length of time to prepare our food.My wife ordered a chicken breast with macaroni and cheese, tomato and onion combination. I ordered 4 chicken wings, steamed okra, saut mushroomsand my father fried catfish, fried okra and mashed potatoes. While the waitress was taking our order the guy at the front desk interrupted her and ask her to clean off the table as she was taking our order. That was rude. The waitress instead of having a service tray came back to our table 6 times before we received most of our food. My father asked her did she forget anything, she couldn’t remember that she forgot the cornbread. A serving tray would help.Let’s start with my meal most soulfood restaurant make things from scratch however this one they did not the macaroni and cheese you can tell it came from a box there was no real cheese only the powder cheese that you will get from a box. The sauted mushrooms it was a straight from a can there is a difference between can and fresh mushrooms you can taste it. The okra it tasted like it came out of a frozen bag. now my father’s okra that was fried he received twice as much then my sauted okra I thought that was odd.My wife chicken breast was slightly burnt and had too much added salt. My chicken wings they pass the test they were OK just a little bit more salt than I like but ok. Now they had a tomato and onion plate that was just ridiculous 3 small slices of roma tomatoes and a thick slice of onion something that would be a better fit on a hamburger value about five cents are priced at over two dollars this was a joke. FYI people roma tomatoes are typically use for making tomato paste or canning try using a beefsteak tomato or another type or use cherry tomatoes dice the onion up and use a type of vinaigrette. After thinking about our experience it reminded me of the rappers delight song many years ago. Would I go back to the restaurant again NO. My family and I have been to soul food restaurants all over this country and one thing that is the death to many is constancy and professionalism. If I wanted processed food I would have went to a chain restaurant. A few simple tips, 1) There should be a dress code white shirt black pants etc. no one should be wearing leggings in a family restaurant type. 2) please invest in a serving tray 3) start making things like mac and cheese from scratch. You have to do better

Great Food & Great People. My daughter and I were in Toledo for the weekend and went to Ruby’s Kitchen. The food was amazing! Everything I had was excellent. The green beans have potatoes and are seasoned perfectly, the fried potatoes & onions are to die for, the baked beans were smokey and delicious . . I could go on. The atmosphere was like walking into Grandma’s kitchen down south, the old skool dining room tables and high back chairs with lace table clothes really made if feel like home. The people all knew each other, everyone who walked in was greeted by first name, it’s definitely a family & friends kind of place. The service was friendly and fast. Overall, I highly recommend Ruby’s Kitchen, it’s truly a wonderful jewel in Toledo.
One of the cleanest restaurants in town. And, the food is excellant!. Everything is made from scratch and to order, so, be patient, it’s well worth the wait! Staff are super efficent and friendly, the dining room tables with lace table coverings is really cool! We had a 4 top and each of us loved the food we ate. The okra was flavored correctly, the green beans were served with chunks of potato in them, the pork chops were so big that 2 could not fit on one plate! We can hardly wait for another visit. We all 4 walked out with enough food for tomorrow’s lunch! Ruby’s sits in a small strip mall on the South side of Dorr, so watch carefully as you drive on Dorr St.
The South has arrived in Toledo!. Fantastic, genuine southern food. Great service, nice enviroment and Ruby herself there every day. There were three of us, all with different dishes and we liked each and every one of them. Some mainstream items like fried chicken, greens. okra, mac/cheese, etc but also specials each day when they serve things such as oxtails & chitterlings. LOVED their cornbread dressing & I hate cornbread dressing! Truly homemade with from scratch chicken or turkey gravy.
