Wish I lived closer to this restaurant or had a chef like this close to Lexington where am from. In town for our daughters graduation. She selected this place and we were pleasantly surprised. The boat docking on the river is a nice touch (makes me want a boat) I ordered the walleye special breaded with crisp walnut crust fried to moist perfection, nice size price of fish. The waitress advised their fish is fresh flown from Boston. The entree come with grilled asparagus and garlic mash potatoes. I paired it with a Riesling. The butter with calamata olives for the fresh bread spread was excitement for the taste buds. The salad was classic Caesar not overwhelming the lettuce. The decor is whimsical and I found myself captivated with the touches of Tuscany even the clothes line was a cute touch. My dining guests all were pleased with their choices as well lasagna and eggplant parmesan (you can tell the difference of homemade pasta and this definitely is) quality ingredients in the lasagna big chunks of italian sausage crisp thinly sliced zucchini in the lasagna. the red sauce is light and not heavy laden with olive oil or peppery tasting. Our server was well attendant to our drinks and overall happiness. We weren’t rushed and our food was brought out timely manner. I don’t ever think I will be in the area again for a while but if I do I will come back for sure. Our tab for 3 was $108.00 but 2 drinks were $14.00. This is a special place so you get the special price too. You owe it to yourself to go!
Amend my previous remark. I typically don’t rewrite a review…but in this case I must. I recently met some friends at The Docks to try out the new restaurant Forresters. However, they were closed due to a mechanical issue and Real Seafood was packed. The three of us were hungry and figured we coudl get into Zia’s for a pizza. We decided against pizza and to order an appetizer instead. We tried the Mussels in a white wine and garlic sauce…this was fantastic. The bread was not that great for an Italian restaurant and the butter infused with olives was okay. For our meal, I tried the Veal Saltimbocca which was delicious and very rich; they do serve glutten free pasta which a friend of mine ordered; and the Chicken with Mushrooms looked nice as well. The wine list was typical and slightly overpriced. Desserts looked store bought (poor presentation). The moral of the story, is yes Zia’s managed to change my perception on the quality of their food as I would definitely go back for the veal saltimbocca…but it is still a hit or miss place. For the money, it still is by 6th favorite Italian restuarant in the area so that has not changed. If you are in the area, and are in a pinch, there are worst places you could go to. I will be back at Zia’s.16 Jul, 2012This doesn’t pass for good Italian. Zia’s is about 6th or 7th on my list for Italian food. The best thing about it is the location! A little pricey for pasta and it doesn’t taste that good. There could be a much better Italian restaurant located at this signature spot, but unfortunately there isn’t.
Awesome eats. Im a canadian with italian desires and zias quenched them perfectly service 100 % decor 100% food an amazing 100% from the bread basket with olive spread, to the salad, the main being veal and dessert all would make a true italian proud and since i am…. bellisimo to the nay sayers i say, i love olive garden but, pleaseeeeee lol
Good, but Overpriced. I have only been there once and ordered the Pollo Parmigiana. It was quite good and would have been worth the $18.95 if it came in a larger portion. The atmosphere is great and definitely would be nice to eat outside during the summer since it is on the riverfront. Not sure if I’ll be back anytime soon though.
Great All-Around Experience. Zia’s is my favorite restaurant on the docks. I really enjoy Italian restaurants, and Zia’s great food, scenic view, consistent service, and authentic feel really make it a top destination for my friends and family when we’re downtown. If you go with a group, share a big pizza – they are fantastic. The surfboard comment was right on. I usually go with a variety of pasta dishes and am never disappointed. Their happy hour is better than I would have expected and they also have a great birthday discount.
Very nice food. Recimmnd the pisstacio encrusted salmon. Fabulous. Nice location – right on the river. Great olive tampenade served with the bread. Good wine list.
