A bit pricey but worthy. We stopped in before a Cavs game and got the only table for 4 without reservations. Really good steak (maybe great) with good sides and outstanding service. We split 3 apps with dinner and had 2 bottles of wine plus tip for about $400. Sides were huge so plan on sharing. Steaks expertly prepared and served. Water glasses never less than half full. Told server we wanted to be seated at the Q by tipoff and made it . Price a bit hefty but when you consider location, atmosphere and service, a total experience.

Excellent Downtown Steakhouse. Red, located on Prospect near East 4th Street, is a second Cleveland area location for this steakhouse (the other is in Beachwood). We ate at the Beachwood location several years ago and it was fine but the ambiance didn’t do much for us. This past Friday, we dined at the downtown location and the space was more vibrant. They have USDA Choice and Angus steaks. The ladies actually had fish dishes (seared tuna and salmon dishes) and they enjoyed them immensely. The men had 8 oz beef filets. You can get your choice of sauce or topping with the steaks (we had the Diane sauce and the blue cheese crumbles). The steaks were wonderfully tender and perfectly prepared. Everything is a la carte, so we ordered two side dishes to share between the four of us and that was about right. Finally, the wine list was quite excellent and on par with what one would expect at a fine steakhouse. We had two different sub-$100 cabernet blends which were both very good. All in all, Red is a tad expensive, but the food and experience is excellent.
Service and professionalism lacking at Ref Steakhouse. Took 50 minutes to get our order placed. That happened only after I stop some guy and and asked if there is anyone who can take our order in place of our non existent waiter. 90 minuets after arriving we were just finishing our appetizer. As were had theater tickets I cancelled the salad course so we might make the show on time…didn’t happen. In addition to having to cancel the salad course we obviously did not get to order desert. we were still 15 minuets late for the show. To make matters worse the noise level was terrible. We paid $152 with tip, had we been able to have a salad and desert the bill would have been $200 or more; for that price I would like to talk normally to the person on the other side of the table, and be able to hear them when they talked to me. Stephanie Pack, the General Manager assured me this is not RED, gave me her card and asked me to please send an email so they could address the situation. I never heard from her again.
My wife and I came in on Sat. Night. We got a promo menu that read 3 for $30, but that portion came out $50. The food is average and the service… Well paying that much and getting Applebee’s quality food…maybe it’s because they just opened.
