Good food but really nothing special.. The food is a little different than your normal Mexican fair but kind of bland. The salsa here just plain sucks. Every flavor is just watery. Its a nice change but would go too often.
So sad to be disappointed. Abuelos was my favorite Mexican since moving to Cincinnati. However, went with my husband recently, who has allergy restrictions, but the waiter couldn’t figure it out. He looked like a deer in headlights when we asked them to customize the dish accordingly. All we asked, was a burrito with just beef and cheese. Came back and said they coudln’t do that (what???) and that he would have to get enchiladas to get it plain. P.S. Enchiladas come with no sauce on top, as asked, but we were amazed at the three tiny enchiladas on his plate with no filling. My plate, with sauce & cheese on top, looked like a nice portion, but when I moved the sauce away, it was the same as his — empty plate, and not even good. If not for the rice & beans & chips & salsa, we would have left hungry! Don’t need to pay those prices for all carbs — might as well do Taco Bell. Crossing this one off my list!
So when i lived in texas, i enjoyed the occasional dinner at abuelos. Now that i live in cincy where most of the mexican food is absolutely awful, i love abuelos! I still dont consider a lot of the entrees to be true texmex, but its good mexican cuisine. Also the sopapillas are a great choice for a post-happy hour margrita fueled dinner.
Meh. Food is fine…on par with most of the Mexican in the area. Where Abuelo’s falls short is in service. We sat at the bar and had to specifically request each of the following: 1. wipe off counter, 2. drink menus, 3. water, 4. silverware, 5. queso (after we had ordered it), 6. our bill. It was one step away from self service. In fact, i would have preferred self service, as the female bartenders seemed angry that we were there at all.
Great mexican food with a diverse menu. Clean, quiet atmosphere great for large parties or dinner for two. Priced a little more expensive than your average mexican joint but the portions are large and delicious

Bland and boring. I ate here for lunch with the work crowd, I arrived feeling nice and hungry and left just feeling hungry. Now I’m not one for an oversized portion for the sake of it but my plate arrived with food looking like it wasnt even big enough for a 5 year olds portion. I ordered the Durango burrito, when it arrived it looked like the least appetizing thing I had seen in a long time, I think it had been sat under the warmer for some time in the kitchen, as it was barely luke warm. I asked the waiter could it be heated up and he just gave me a funny look and said well we can make a fresh one but you will have to wait as we are pretty busy as its lunch time !!!. So I ate the sad looking offering and wont be back, for $8.99 it was overpriced, teeny tiny and very, very bland
