Excellent Food- Pleasant Atmosphere. We went to Wendell’s Pub to celebrate our son’s birthday. He had the walleye and stated it was about the best he has had! It was lightly breaded and almond crusted. My wife had Chicken Marsala and she too was very pleased. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and very tender. The salads we had were excellent as well. I had the marinated chicken on a bed of mashed potatoes; it was excellent. Our grandson had the pizza from the kid’s menu and he too said it excellent. All in all, we had an excellent dinner. Our son had complementary birthday cake that he said was delicious. After reading some of the reviews, prior to going, I was hesitant to choose this restaurant…..I’m delighted we went!
Very poor experience. Went here on a Friday night and had the worst experience at a restaurant in a long time. We made reservations for 7, showed up at 6:30 and were fine waiting until 7, but when it was 7:30 and they were seating groups of 6 or more who DIDN’T have reservations, that was a bit much. Finally got seated closer to 8, and honestly this should have been our cue to leave. The waitress was nice enough but was so busy she could not be attentive. It took another 30 min after we were seated for her to take our order and another hour to receive our food. All in all we were at the restaurant for FOUR hours. Our food was also extremely overpriced and very mediocre. The salads were served without dressing, and we had to ask the waitress to bring the dressing out (which we got 10 min later). Also, the fish and chips had about an inch of breading on it and was terribly greasy. Overall, we left fairly hungry and vowed never to go back again.
Wendell’s Pub used to be our favorite spot but we feel that there has been a significant decline in service, atmosphere and quality of food. The prime rib was so small that I left hungry. Tried again for lunch. Took 45 mins to get our order even though there were very few patrons. Meal was very skimpy. The waitress was friendly though. All in all very disappointing.
Not Impressed. This place is a joke….. they don’t understand what medium RARE means… steak was over cooked… service poor.. Pepsi Products another ding so I ordered tea & server didn’t keep drink full. Overpriced food that simply is not that good
A pleasant lunch experience. A group of us went here for lunch. its near the intersection of Polaris/maxtown & state st. its on the back side of an office building. I will start with the negatives. our server lacked any type of personality, and she also lacked a knowledge of their menu. she didn’t do anything wrong, but it was an awkward experience. also they serve pepsi products instead of coke, which is a pet peeve of mine. I am sure that doesn’t matter to most people. the positives: it is a good size restaurant and it is decorated pretty nice (except for the old vinyl tablecloths). the menu is extensive and offers lots of choices to suit your mood. everyone at our table of 5 got a different dish, and each person was happy with their food. prices are fair as well. we will definitely go back again to try some more of their food. I just hope we get a different server next time.
My wife and I’ve visited Wendell’s pub with a group of friends last Saturday February 9th. my wife ordered parmesan crusted tilapia. the fish was overcooked. mashed potatoes were luke warm at best and the asparagus looked like string beans. I would be flat out embarrassed to serve asparagus that looked the way it looked. I encourage her to send it back but she chose not to. on the other hand I ordered the San Francisco melt. it was great! our server was very attentive with a good personality. we have been to Wendell’s 3 times and each time we have been disappointed with something about the food that was served us.
Hidden gem. Wendells is nice but still casual and not too upscale. There’s a good variety of food and it is the perfect place to take family with grandparents and kids, a group of friends, an adult sports team, etc. Last time we all just ordered rounds of appetizers and were very pleased. Everything tastes great, it is clean, comfortable and has character, not too dark or loud. We’ve had a good experience every time.
