New menu and great service. I noticed previous comments were from 2013 or before. We’ve gone to Ballentine’s for dinner a couple times this year (2014) and have had excellent food and outstanding service. The lamb chops and seafood dishes were wonderful. Their Sushi choices are pretty nice, too. Our waitress couldn’t have been more attentive and made suggestions for my husband, who has to eat gluten-free. She even brought the chef out to meet us to discuss the menu. We were very pleased. The only time we ran into an issue was one night when their grill was down (something broke and they were waiting for a part). Only a limited menu was available and pizza is not an option for my gluten-free husband, so we had to go elsewhere. But, we are looking forward to trying Ballentine’s again.
Terrible. With the bar of downtown Willoughby so low, Ballantine is a pure shame.If you have a few hundred extra dollars burning a hole in your pocket, and you want nothing more than to go to a bar where you’ll be hit on by 16 year old hipsters or 60 year old creeps as you try to fight for the attention of the nowhere-near-knowledgeable bartender(s) who are too busy hitting on the other employees to notice you…then this is your place.Otherwise, head down the street to…anywhere else.
Ordered a wedge to go, it was really just a half a head of lettuce jammed in a to go container, 1/2 an egg, minimal bacon and 3 tomatoes with some brown avacado.
If you’re going here for beer, go around dinner time in the early evening and get a table. The waiters know the beers not the bartenders. The other reviews about ditzy blondes at least appear accurate. Also I’ve never been harrased while at a table. The music gets pretty bad and very loud around 10, which is annoying when running into friends. The food is a tad pricey but is good quality. The pizza is good but the sauce tasted strongly of basil and garlic. Personally I don’t like basil. Overall a good place to go in the evening to try some new and interesting beers but becomes a bit of a dive later on.
I’d stay away unless you plan on getting one of the pricier meals. Had a horrible charry burger here the other night. Steaks are usually good and love the muscles over fries.
I cant honestly take this place seriously!
I hate their country fried steak.
