Its so sad how an independent restaurant could be so rude to their patrons, especially coming from the owner. My parents dined in this evening on their first visit to this establishment and were treated poorly. While their dinners were good, service was terrible and the vegetable sandwich they bought to-go was not what the menu said it would be. The menu states this sandwich should be made with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, lettuce, onion ring, and yellow homemade sauce. The sandwich brought home to me was primarily made of broccoli, onion rings, 1 bite of yellow pepper, 2 bites of red pepper, and a couple tiny slivers of zucchini. To top it off my parents asked for one dessert so they could split it. This owner brought them 2 desserts of different variety so my parents assumed the extra was complimentary for the service they were provided. No, they were charged for both desserts. I called the owner just now and he proceeded to yell at me and his only thing he would actually say is that everything is homemade. Before I was even finished with providing details he said goodbye and while he was hanging up, I heard him say stupid. How appalling to have an owner of a restaurant treat an entire family so poorly in one night. My family will never patronize this restaurant again and I hope if you are thinking about trying it out, you will think twice!
Oh my goodness, where do I begin? Everything was fine until we ordered. The chef/owner/waiter was charming, extolling the excellence of the food, pushing the European entrees. There were 4 of us and two opted for Chicken Paprikas and 2 for sandwiches. That seemed to set him off. I ordered the 1/2 pound Grilled Reuben and my other friend ordered a Club Sandwich. When the food finally came, the Paprikas was an inordinately small portion for $9.75–approximately 1/3 of a chicken breast, 2/3 of a cup of cooked spaetzle and a great deal of gravy, no vegetables were visible. The sandwiches were a hoot. My friends Club Sandwich was 2 pieces of turkey Lunch Meat with lettuce and Italian dressing on 2 pieces of ultra thin dried out rye bread. My ‘1/2 pound’ Rueben contained at best 1/4 pound of sliced corned beef Lunch Meat–you know, like the kind of Roast Beef they serve at Arby’s–processed meat food product! The bread (the same junk my friend got) was toasted, (not grilled–there was no fat on that bread) on 1 side, the meat was barely warmed, the cheese was not melted–oh, and the sauerkraut was out of the refrigerator cold! I took 1 bite and pushed it aside. Oh and the potato chips were stale and largely the ‘bottom of the bag’ scraps for both of us. The owner/chef/waiter finally came back in 10 minutes and said what is wrong–I told him the kraut was cold. He actually hollered at me that you don’t cook kraut! I asked for a box, planning on taking the ‘meat’ home to put with some other real meat and make a hoagie. He came back and said, I explain to you–I said I don’t want an explanation, I just want a box. My friends who had the Paprikas mentioned the unpleasant heat in the gravy–likely because instead of sweet paprika he opted for hot Hungarian paprika–probably not the best choice to appeal to global community! All in all a delightful lunch with friends, but the food was 2 thumbs down by all. Oh, and I think the ice tea was made from powder. When I ordered the Reuben I wasn’t expecting a Slyman’s sandwich. But I did think it would be better than a sandwich I would have gotten had I just gone to the Stop n’ Go gas station, especially for $9.75.
Awsome. Best dinning experience and snitzal in ohio way batter then the giesen house in canton the service felt like I wos back in Germany eating at my favorite resterant I cant evon describe how happy I am to have found this place the cakes/baked goods look amazing and the coffiee also smells great I love everything about it ty for the great experience cant wait to bring my wife and its alittle ways from me in akron but well worth it
Excellent European cuisine, wine and beer. The best coffee in the area.
Brings my memories of going to Grandma’s with thise wonderful ethnic foods – goulash, schnitzel, stuffed cabbage, etc. Slow quiet dining experience. Great for de-stressing. All food is made from scratch and meat comes from the Amish – no preprocessed garbage. Could improve on salads. Was there recently for polka night. They have entertainment on some Fridays.
Wonderful Experience. Stopped for lunch while passing through Cleveland. After having been unable to find a good cup of coffee on our journey to the east coast and back we happened to find Cafe Europa. The owners create all the dishes themselves and the desserts (loved em!) all hand made and delicious. They even have a hand full of vegetarian selections which we also enjoyed. The coffee is outstanding as well, with a variety of blends to choose from. The authentic European cuisine and outstanding coffee are worth the trip. We had a wonderful experience, the highlight of our dining experiences on our long journey. Highly Recommended!
What a treat. Stumbled upon Cafe Europa on a snowy evening around 7:30. The place was empty, but others loss was our gain because we were able to have the owner’s ( John or Johan) total attention. I ordered the goulash, my buddy got the paprikash and some German wheat beer. The goulash appeared to have much more meat than the paprikash, but both were filling and tasty. John brought us fresh toasted bread and later a warm chocolate chip cookie. Other dinners( regulars) arrived and we engaged them in conversation, John joined us and the meal went very pleasantly. Not sure when I’ll ever be at SOM Center Rd and I-90 again, but if I am, I’ll make it a point to stop in.
