Taco Local is our new go-to spot for Taco Tuesdays. The owner really knows how to create a fun atmosphere with an authentic menu, and great prices. This place feels like a California surf shack as opposed to some dirty, cheezy, cookie cutter mexican restaurant with the same old boring menus (you know what I’m talking about). The menu offers a wide range of tacos, nachos, burritos, and bowls. And the menu is very well executed by the chefs. We ordered tortilla chips with pineapple salsa. This came with a combination of crispy seasoned pita triangles and tortilla chips. And while I don’t tend to like pineapple very much, the addition of onion, and serrano peppers in the puree made this salsa friggin delicious! We also got the tacos ($2 apiece on that tuesday): this order included two pork tacos (perfectly seasoned moist pork shoulder), two chorizo & beef tacos (not super hot chorizo like at some other places, but with more depth to the spices including a bit of nutmeg which was really nice on a Fall night out), and finally two beet & mushroom tacos which made for a super tasty veggie option. All tacos came with fresh authentic ingredients like cotija cheese, cilantro, and crema. And the flour tortillas had cheese fried onto one side using the flat top griddle, and this added a great additional layer of flavor and texture.Beer specials are super cheap ($2 special that tuesday night). And for as busy as the place was, service was still pretty good! There was also a DJ spinning vinyl that was heavy on killer tracks from the 70’s, but also wove in a good number of current pop and rock songs.I had always wanted to try this place out, and I’m glad we decided to finally give it a go. We will definitely be back there next Tuesday, and many more times after that.
