Tried this place out during OKC restaurant week. Glad that they expanded the range of restaurants in this event. My husband and I have seen their food truck everywhere so we were looking forward to this. The food did not disappoint. The restaurant is small with limited seating. The menu is also small as well so with a limited selection, they are able to offer a good quality meal. I tried the fish, shrimp and fries. I thought the fish was great! Loved the coating and the spice. The shrimp and fires were ok.I plan to go back and try more items!
One of the things I have discovered is that when a restaurant has a limited menu, that often means the quality of those items is very good. Off the Hook adds another example to show that this principle is true.My wife and I went here during OKC Restaurant Week. I ordered the gumbo and a blackened chicken po boy with fries. She got the seafood wontons and basket of shrimp, fish, and fries. The worst part of meal was the fries. They were hot and crispy shoestring fries but not much better than you can do yourself at home. I prefer really thin fries (e.g. Freddy’s Frozen Custard) or roasted potatoes instead. The rest of the food was quite delicious. The gumbo was served piping hot with a scoop of yellow rice floating on top of it. There were little bits of sausage and shrimp in it. The dark brown broth had good seafood flavor. The chicken po boy had too much butter on the bun for my taste, but the rest of it was good. Their sriracha ranch has only a little bit of spice in it. Here seafood wontons were also piping hot; the cream cheese lends a nice counterpoint to the crispy fried wonton shell. The fish and shrimp were both coated in a crispy, well-seasoned batter — just the way that she likes it. They were more than happy to provide her with more tartar sauce and cocktail sauce when she requested it. Ketchup and hot sauce were already provided at the table. We arrived at 11:35 am, and we are glad we did so because we beat the lunch rush from 11:45 – 12:15. There is plenty more to try on their menu, so we would like to return.
I got the catfish and shrimp, fried, w/mac & cheese. The catfish was wonderful, and though the shrimp was good too, I preferred the broiled shrimp my son ordered. I’m getting that the next time. Mac & cheese was very tasty, although the sauce was a little on the thin side.My only complaint is that I ordered my and #2 son’s meals first and #1 son ordered his a few customers behind us—but he got his order first. After we had the pleasure of watching him finish his meal, I finally went up to the counter to see what was taking our order so long. The cashier hollered our number back to the kitchen, and they said they hadn’t received that number. So we had to wait a few more minutes, and then #1 son got to watch us eat our meal. I had even included a small tip when I paid. Just a simple mistake, I guess, but it was totally their fault–although they apologized we were not offered a free drink or anything the next time we came in, for having such an awkward dining experience.
