I have eaten here several times usually because there’s some kind of lunch or dinner for work scheduled here. I basically go to Park Avenue Grill on my own when I can’t get a reservation at the two or three other upscale restaurants in the downtown OKC area. That was the case this past Friday since I waited until the day before my wife and I were going to a concert at the Peake. I couldn’t get a reservation at the Mantel or Mickey Mantle’s or the Museum Cafe. The service was pretty good on this particular night. The food was, as usual, exhibiting quality not commensurate with the price, ie mediocre and over-priced. The pasta and shrimp dish we had for an entree was OK but the predominant spice was salt. Really? Chef, could you maybe get your hands on some herbs or other spices besides salt?

Breakfast buffet is excellent! From the omelet chef, the wait staff and bus staff. I can not wait to return.

Excellent full service breakfast. We ordered off the menu instead of choosing the breakfast buffet. Our server advised us our choices were cheaper on the buffet but we still opted for full table service and were glad we did. Delicious food and wonderful service. Beautiful hotel.

Price gouging on Mother’s Day. I made reservations online and took my mother to Park Avenue Grill for brunch on Mother’s Day. When we arrived and were seated, I asked why the menu at the table was different from the brunch menu online. The server informed me that it was a special Mother’s Day brunch and that instead of the normal $25 per person brunch price advertised online, it was $39 per person. I couldn’t really leave at that point without ruining my mother’s special day or risk my credit card being charged for being a no-show for my reservation, so I was forced to pay $14 extra per person. I suppose the restaurant tries to justify the price by claiming it’s a 4-course meal, but I think we honestly would have been happier with the normal brunch menu which includes drinks and is made to order (http://www.skirvinhilton.com/pdf-skirvin-oklahoma/park-avenue-grill-brunch.pdf). Three of the four courses we received today were predetermined and most likely prepared in advance. Our food was delivered and plates were cleared by a number of servers, which made it seem less like the fine dining experience I expected. Then the check was delivered before the final course which the server did not realize we hadn’t received, and I was charged for an item I didn’t order and had to get the server to remove it. While some of the food was good and my mom enjoyed her brunch, none of the food was exceptional and the frustration at the price change and the snafus in the service left me with a bad taste and I won’t be returning.

Mediocre and overpriced. Although the service was fine for our party of eight, there were multiple problems with the food. Most was luke-warm when served. I had the pot roast which had a ‘reduced’ red wine sauce which tasted burnt. Something obviously charred during the reduction and wasn’t caught. It would have been okay at Cracker Barrel for $10.99, but far from okay for $28. The seafood stew had whole shrimp still in the shells which was impossible to eat without flinging broth and shrimp parts onto the person trying to eat it with nice clothing (and her neighbors). The $7 deserts were ridiculous. The fangipane tart shell was so hard, it couldn’t be cut with a butter knife and the little carrot cakes were fair, if I had paid $2.99 for them at a supermarket…

Dont waste your money (a lot of it). We went for Valentine’s dinner. It was the most expensive bad meal I have ever had. It was a fixed menu so you would think that the service would be pretty great seeing as how the waiter really doesn’t have much responsibility other than keeping your drinks full. The service was terrible. The waiter brought out the wrong bottle of wine once and other than that was pretty much just MIA the whole time. It took us over 2 and half hours to eat. For $90 a person the food should have been memorable but it wasnt. The only saving grace was the dessert. It was fantastic. I know it was a fixed menu but I have no desire to give this place another try.
