Wayback offers a great-tasting casual hamburger in a place that reminded me of Smashburger, Five Guys, and Johnny Rockets in restaurant decorations, menu, and price point. I ordered a double with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and grilled onions. They dice up onions before grilling them. I prefer onion strings instead. I also prefer more onions than what came on my burger. However, everything else tasted good. The bun was substantial enough to hold up before I finished eating the burger, the patties and bun had the same diameter, and the patties were a good balance between too greasy and too dry. You can taste the beef in these hamburgers. My wife and I shared an order of french fries. They were nothing special – a bit thicker than McDonald’s shoestring fries and not seasoned much. We ate here with two friends of ours. B had two problems with her food. First, her burger came with raw onions even though she specifically ordered it without onions. She took it back to the counter and the staff got her a replacement burger in just a few minutes. Next, she found a hair in her milkshake. She got little reaction from a staff member when she presented the milkshake at the counter. About 15 minutes later, a staff member came to our table to offer her a voucher for a free milkshake and a voucher for a free single patty burger on a future visit. I thought that it was commendable that the staff offered some kind of restitution instead of ignoring her, but I would have refunded the price of her meal, too.It’s worth a second visit to see if this poor service was routine or a rare occurrence.
I always enjoy trying new places, but I wish this wouldn’t have been one of them. We had a burger, chicken sandwich, chips and fries and not one item was worth finishing. Tucker’s burgers reign supreme but I would have rather eaten Jack in the Box over this place.
