When I think of Pelican’s I immediately think of their French onion soup – which they serve every day. It has a deep flavored broth and tons of onions. It comes as part of the salad bar which also has another offering as the soup of the day.Prices are a bit high but the value and quality is there. The steaks come out well, the salad bar is decent. Most meals come with a loaf of bread and real butter. The atmosphere has a kind of laid back but still structured feel – they have sort of a dock/pub motiff. The servers are attentive but occasionally they get jumped by one or more large groups. In these circumstances the staff still performs fairly well. This is probably helped a bit by the customers being responsible for their own salads and soups.I would categorize Pelican’s as something less than a strictly celebration restaurant but more than an everyday place.
The only thing going for this restaurant is the cool 70s vibe. Any other seafood place has better food, and i’m really surprised this place is still in business. Maybe they are using it to launder cocaine money? I’ve been here three times, and the food was lousy each time, excepting the salad bar which has cold plates and blue cheese dressing. Seemed very expensive as well.
Bad Oysters. I was at Pelicans last night and ordered a dozen oysters on the half shell. The first batch of oysters they served to me were discolored and obviously spoiled. I informed the waitress, she agreed the oysters were bad and immediately returned the bad oysters to the kitchen and brought me a new batch of oysters. Unfortunately the second batch of oysters the waitress served me were definitely spoiled and smelled bad. It struck me as incredible that a restaurant would serve spoiled food to a customer, but to serve it twice was just plain negligent, especially since these were raw oysters (seafood). I don’t usually write reviews but in this case felt I should share this with other potential customers that go to this restaurant.
Great restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place. It’s locally owned and clear that the owners and staff care about their customers. They make it a point to go out of their way for you. Great service and great food.
Consistently Good–favorite restaurant for our extended family. Very good & fresh seafood, well prepared. I’m a big fan of the crab cakes, a dish I usually avoid unless I’m near Chesapeake Bay. Dad swears by the chicken fried steak. Service has been excellent time after time.
Odd place but NICE!. It may be time for an upgrade on dcor LOL…but…Food was VERY good!!l If you are looking for seafood, this is a place to come in MWC!
Leisure Time. I meet family there and have a good leisure meal with them. We are not rushed out and have always been happy with the service and the meal. Price is good for the type of restaurant it is. I have been going there since it opened when I lived in Midwest City. Now I meet family there when I am in town to have a good visit with good food and service.
