Light bites with heavy tomes. The Garden Cafe is part of Oklahoma’s largest independent bookstore–a dying breed. Food is simple but not simplistic. They offer three soups, some of which change from day to day. Tomato basil soup is always available. It’s a very good, thick soup, with plenty of flavor. Salads and sandwiches are also available. The chicken salad is highly recommended as a nice hunger cutter while you read your new-found book. They also serve a couple of fruit-flavored iced teas, which are really good. In the spring and summer, you can eat on the patio. Weekly, the cafe offers live music. Watch their website, http://www.fullcirclebooks.com, for the exact day and musician. The small cafe also hosts readings and various small cultural and civic events. It’s a completely civilized way of living and a nice break from hectic and overly commercialized places. The counter staff is very friendly, as is everyone in the bookstore. We really need to support our few remaining indpendent bookstores against the chains, where few people actually read what they’re selling.
