Better steak than Cattlemen’s. This cafe in the Stockyards Exchange Building has been opened about one week. It takes over the old Stockyards City Cafe location. I had the ribeye steak. It was prime beef and perfectly grilled. It was a much better steak than any cut of meat I’ve ever eaten at Cattlemen’s Cafe around the corner. It’s not as great as high-dollar steakhouses like the Ranch or Red Prime, but at $12.95 it is a great buy and a very good meal. I had mashed potatoes but don’t recommend them because they tasted like dehydrated flakes. Go with the baked potato instead. (The brown gravy, however, was very good. They give you a choice of brown or white gravy for your mashed potatoes.) The single waitress seats everyone and is genuinely friendly although a little uncertain of herself. The decor is mostly butterscotch-colored booths, but they’re all in good shape and comfortable. Except for the ribeye and t-bone steaks, which are the same price, the menu prices are below ten dollars per dish.
