Amazing, need a prime location. This taqueria is great! the inside is clean and the waitresses are friendly. my favorite is the tacos de trompo. quick friendly and effecient.
Ok torta, good soup. The torta didn’t stick out from any other authentic Mexican restaurant (good asada meat and everything else, but just didn’t stick out), but I like this place because of the soup.Caldo Tlalpeno soup is kind of hard to find. It’s a chicken soup with avocado. Initially it wasn’t spicy enough, but the delicious salsas (and carrots, and the works) available gave it a delicious flavor. The soup was HUGE. The horchata was the perfect thing to cool down the mouth afterwards. Service was good, with tortillas, pickled (?) carrots, a salsa verde, and a delicious spicy red salsa being given.
Ok Tacos. I ordered the Tacos de Trompo which is a Monterrey equivalent to Al Pastor. It is the same kind of meat but spices can be different. It is usually cooked on the trompo which is a rotisserie similar to when you would order a gyro. They cooked the meat on the grill and not on the trompo. The food was good but I was expecting more and that is why I am rating it, I dont like it. I have a friends family who owns a Monterrey style taqueria in Dallas and their food is so much better. The only place I can compare the style of trompo/pastor tacos in Oklahoma City is Abels and Abels wins hands down.
Best pork chile verde. The pork chile verde here is the best in the city. Chile verde can be astringent, but this sauce is smooth while also packing a bit of heat. More heat can be added to your taste with the very nice red and green salsas that accompany this dish. The pork has been slowly simmered to its tenderest perfection, and the cook uses plenty of great herbs and spices in just the right combination. (Beware of bay leaves.) There is nothing I would do to change this dish. In another menu item–flautas–you’ll find a velvety tomatillo and pepito sauce that you should take a spoon to as you would a soup. This sauce isn’t spicy, but it’s full of flavor. Get your choice of beef or chicken flautas just to obtain this sauce. The flauta meat itself requires a dip in a salsa for the maximum gustatory pleasure. The setting is an unassuming store front that is much cleaner than some of the area’s other taquerias. The Mexican version of MTV is played a little loud, though.
