Couldn’t make it down to New Orleans this year, so decided I’d do my own Mardi Gras here.Took down a Kings Cake and a couple Sazeracs for breakfast. Figured it best to eat the whole cake myself, so I’d have no competition getting the little baby Jesus.Got the baby Jesus knew it was gonna be a good day. Grabbed my Dr. John’s Gumbo cassette, filled up a Thermos of hurricanes, and hopped in the van. Decided I’d go get some real Cajun grub at Off The Hook here in town. Been there many times and it’s always top notch.Showed up with a pretty good buzz, so naturally I over ordered. Got the Crazy Crawdaddy (first time) with fries and a large bowl of seafood gumbo. Chef Corey told me not to hurt myself. Told him I’d be just fine. They hit this one out of the park. The Crazy Crawdaddy was smothered in cheese and loaded with crawfish. Had to catch my breath in between bites, but made sure to chew everything real good. Gumbo was everything I wanted it to be and more.Merci, Off the Hook. Outstanding Fat Tuesday performance.

Okay everyone, I went to Off the Hook for the chicken. I know right. Others were smakin lips and lickin fingers on the seafood dishes so, I’m assuming it was just as delicious as my chicken. The chicken tastes like something mama would make. I loved it. My sides were collards and the mac and cheese. It was really fresh, seasoned well and hot. The service was second to none. The sweet cashier forgot to credit the local card. She came to the table and profusely apologized. We agreed on the Kool aid pickles. The jury is out on that one. It’s such a New and different taste for me. I’ll be going back. Go early though, it fills up fast. FYI the do take the Keep it local card. Soon they will be opening a second location on S Meridian Ave where the old Pearls used to be.

I loved this spot. I had the grilled tilapia and shrimp basket with fried okra. Everything was cooked beautifully and was so tasty. The hospitality is fantastic as well. Everyone was very kind and helpful.
