My wife and I enjoyed a nice meal here on our first visit. This restaurant feels a lot like En Croute in Nichols Hills. The furniture and decorating are similar, and the focus is fine cheese and charcuterie is also present. We tried several small plates and one large plate, including the house pickles, roasted cauliflower, truffle fries, candied pecans, cacio e pepe, bacon wrapped dates, brussels sprouts with spanish chorizo, and fried chicken thighs. The house pickles were homemade bread and butter pickles; they paired well with the fried chicken thighs. The chicken thighs themselves were served as four pieces (two per thigh). The coating was well seasoned, and they were served piping hot. The brussels sprouts tasted better when I ate them with some of the little bits of chorizo; otherwise, they could have used some extra salt or pepper. Thankfully, they were not mushy — just browned on the cut side. The roasted cauliflower was salted almost to the point of being too salty and was almost swimming in the roasting oil. This is about how roasted cauliflower turns out for me at home, and I thought it tasted good. However, you definitely need to eat it while it is hot. The truffle fries were sliced as thinly as Freddy’s fries. I could taste the truffle oil; when I had truffle fries in the past, that was not the case (e.g. Mutt’s Amazing Hot Dogs). The candied pecans were not anything special. The cacio e pepe was simple goodness but so buttery that we could not finish it. The bacon wrapped dates were delicious because 4 out of the 5 dates were wrapped in crispy bacon. This is definitely not a place where we can eat out often, but that is the case for all of the restaurants in the Plaza District. We look forward to our next visit.
Great food with an extensive wine list at good prices. Ask about the carafes of wine which are an excellent price. Lots of small plate options so you can try different things. At our table the steak, duck and scallops were a hit. Brown butter blondie and almond cookies were tasty for dessert
Quite a menu to start at open but short on servers that understand the menu, tastes or cocktails so you better know your charcuterie, fromage, spirits and vino. The food was great and well priced but please please do teach your staff a thing or two about what they’re serving. Parking is always tight in the Plaza. Look for lots of space in the Lyric Theatres West lot on the NW corner of Indiana and 16th. This place is worth a try and should only get better as their staff gets a handle on things.
