Tried this place tonight with the parents, and we were all impressed. We all had hot green tea, which was a nice Japanese green (we’re all picky about our teas, and I’ll downgrade a sushi place in a heartbeat for serving cheap American tea). We had the pan-fried gyoza, which had great texture and flavor. My mother and I are sushi fiends, and are always on the lookout for a new place at which to enjoy sushi. We tried the yellowtail, sassy shrimp, all ’bout tuna, fisherman’s, and spiderman rolls. They were all very good, though we agreed the sassy shrimp was the best. The rice was properly seasoned and soft (not cold!). The fish was all fresh and the rolls had a good balance of flavors and textures. On a side-ish note: the wasabi was nice and strong. My father hates seafood in any form, and he was extremely happy with his steak (though New York is not his favorite cut). It was nicely seasoned and well prepared. He was also very impressed with the side of baby bok choy and shiitake mushrooms. The bok choy was still crisp and the dish was tasty. Our waitress was friendly and helpful without being pushy or hovering. The atmosphere was subtly trendy and suitable for a date or family meal (though maybe not so much young children). The prices are typical for a sushi restaurant, though at least the portion and roll sizes are fairly hefty. The menu has enough variety to pacify any dietary restrictions (they have a gluten free list!) or picky eaters (like the anti-seafooders). We will all come back and bring others with us.
Very, very modern and beautiful on the inside. The restaurant was clean, and found it to be a nice date night or get-together with friends for drinks atmosphere. Our waitress seemed fairly new, but was nice, accommodating, and attentive enough. We ordered the #2 Sushi Platter – Hungry – as we were, indeed, very hungry and thought the variety would be great to really explore what The Sushi Bar had to offer. We found the nigiri, raw fish slices were not as fresh, and the sushi rice a little dry, almost like regular cooked rice which didn’t help out the OMG roll; its contents were great, but the overall texture and feeling on the palette was not the most delectable. All in all, we found it to be very, very overpriced for what we received. It is unfortunate, because I truly wanted to continue being excited for this new restaurant, but until they improve the quality of their food, their atmosphere and vibe is the only thing that will keep it in the competitive Japanese sushi market.
Yaaaaaaay sushi! My boyfriend and I are vegetarian and they said they’d make any roll for us without meat! But the veggie ones on the menu are pretty freaking awesome and the Inari is crazy tasty!
New upscale sushi restaurant offering more than the tradition fare. There are several appetizers to choose from, but you must not pass up the miso soup. It is delightfully delicate, with a slight smokey flavor. At the suggestion of the waitress, I chose the chef’s special roll. It was a large six-piece roll with tuna, cilantro, cream cheese, jalapeo and more. The flavors blended together well for a solid introduction. The waitress was attentive, friendly and helpful. I did raise an eyebrow at the packaged wooden chopsticks. They seem out of place with the surroundings. And they’re too short for dealing with large pieces of my roll.
