Duffys Grill 022218,My perception of this place had been a little jaded because of its size and its location. Every time I thought I wanted to stop in and eat it was always closed. Apparently, they close at 3:00 pm, except Wednesday, Thursday and Friday where they close at 9:00 pm. This night they were open and I stopped in for dinner. The restaurant is long and narrow, there is plenty of seating at several tables and booths and would be hard to feel crowded. Furniture is dated and well used. I was the only customer and 6 others walked in about 5 minutes after I did. I looked their menu over well and it is filled with breakfast items, which is their obvious specialty and it is served all day. Wasnt sure what I wanted so I opted for old reliable: This is what I ordered for review.Ice tea no sugar with lemon.Chicken fried steak dinnerMashed potatoes and gravyFried okraMushroom soup instead of side saladI was seated in the middle of the room by the only waitress they had on duty. (Jamie) She took my drink order brought me my tea and allowed me time to look through the menu. She then took m y order and placed it on the reel. I could then see a middle aged man in the kitchen working to complete my order as other patrons joined the soiree. This place is a well-used diner, it had a great patina of age and I envision it being a huddle place for old men on Saturday morning to come and tell lies and solve the worlds problems. You can see its history in the walls and the dcor. The mushroom soup was delivered first in a small stoneware bowl and plate with saltine crackers. Soup was hot and had plenty of mushrooms, to me, its taste reminded me of a certain canned version of soup, except it had small dime sized, sliced button mushrooms that I felt were from a can too. It wasnt that it was bad because it wasnt, I liked it. And I could be wrong about his recipe. It was the first thing I had eaten from there and thats how I felt about it. The CFS was delivered on a large stoneware plate, covered in white cream gravy, a decent portion of mashed potatoes served with gravy in a divot. Fried okra in a small bowl, roll served piping hot on a small plate. The CFS was about the size of a grown mans hand, seasoned and batter fried in what looked like buttermilk wash. The crust was crispy but not hard, the steak was thinner than I expected and was cooked very well. The mashed potatoes were of a box type I believe, and of good quality. They were light and fluffy, perfectly cooked. Gravy on both was cream white gravy thats typical of these types of breakfast restaurants. I happen to like this kind of gravy a lot. Its not homemade, but its just as good. The okra was hot and crispy, again perfectly cooked like everything else. The roll, while it was hot enough to easily melt a pat of room temp butter had cooled off a bit before I used it clean up my leftover gravy. It started to get a little tough toward the end as it cooled.Overall the food was good and was priced well. I can see through the food and his prep methods that the cook/owner has been doing this short order kind of breakfast, lunch and dinner thing for a while and has it down to a science. I would definitely visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime. I write these reviews to assist you in the food experience and not so much the service experience. Decent Breakfast All Day. I grabbed breakfast for dinner with the family on a Saturday night around 6PM, and the only other customers were an elderly couple who was leaving. It’s a hole-in-the-wall just off 169 (behind Wal-Greens), and it seems to cater to the senior crowd. The food was all right but bland. Adding salt or salsa to the eggs helps, and the bacon was nicely crisp. The pancake was uneven (significantly thicker on one half than the other) although it was tasty. While I liked the meal OK, I prefer Mom’s Diner on 116th & Garnet much better. That’s still my top choice for breakfast in Owasso.
