Like going to Granny’s house. Fried chicken just like my granny’s! They cut and batter and yummy fry their own complete with REAL mashed potatoes, gravy made with milk. Nothing is over-salted! And the pies are made from scratch and to die for!!! I didn’t know anyone cooked like this anymore. And so many young folks don’t even know the difference. Thank you to all the ladies at Benton’s. AWESOME JOB!!!
Old Fashioned Goodness. After reading the comment about the hamburger, I ordered that today. As I thought, I have to disagree. Benton’s has the old fashioned patty on the grilled bun with chopped (not shredded) lettuce, sliced onions and a thick slice of tomato. I chose to not add cheese. The hamburger, fresh cooked fries, drink (1 refill and 1 to go) and a huge slice of pineapple cream pie for later, totaled $9.85. With friendly, fast service, it was well-worth a 15% tip. Another comment said that they only take cash and checks. They do take credit/debit cards, just not American Express. As much as I enjoyed the hamburger, I probably won’t get it again just because I like the other food so much. A plate lunch special is $8.45 including a meat (4 everyday choices and daily special), mashed potatoes, salad, roll/cornbread and a vegetable. It’s more than I can eat so I take some home for dinner.

Old time diner, great breakfast. Nothing fancy about this place, but they can cook a great breakfast. Our eggs, pancakes, and french toast were all just right, and the hash browns are simply excellent.I’d like to see them upgrade the coffee.We had no room for pie, but they had over a dozen varieties offered.
Old fashion hole in the wall place. Eggs over medium was cooked correctly, French toast was very good, sausage a little overdone though. be warned…. Only accepts cash or check.
I am not originally from Shawnee, so when I found Benton’s, I thought I had come upon a truly old fashioned cafe. The interior even had me anticipating a great meal. I got the hamburger, OMG! This would be the worst hamburger I have had in my 38 years. The patty was the size of a cd. What I mean is, that the thickness was the same as a cd; no exagerating! If I owned this place I would be embarrassed! If the burger was bad, just imagine the more complicated menu items.
