Diner from Collinsville. This place is WONDERFUL! My daughter and I have had the opportunity to travel around the states, and have eaten at many great restaurants. This is be one of our favorites! We splurged and had a 5 course meal to sample many great items on the menu. We highly recommend the deviled eggs! I had not had escargot for many years, so we had to have that. YUM! The apple and greens salad was scrumptious. The trout was fresh and cooked to perfection, as well as the duck breast. The butternut squash au gratin was wonderful. We had a few of the cocktails, which were mixed with great skill. We tried the chocolate mousse, and even though we were FULL, we couldn’t stop eating it. Last but not least, our server was amazing! He was so helpful, and treated us with great respect. My daughter is gluten sensitive, and this restaurant has almost all gluten free entrees, +++! The dishes are all made from scratch with fresh ingredients, so each one takes a little time; which is worth it and allowed for great time spent with my daughter. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
The Hen had a very nice older couple date night environment. I would not say that it’s French food is exactly French but it was still enjoyable.
No service. We decided to try this restaurant out after purchasing a Groupon and thought it would be fun. Ended up waiting around for 15 minutes without any anyone acknowledging us. As we made it to the door, a nice waitress approached us and told us there had been a miscommunication. While she was nice and sincere in her approach there were only 4 tables (including us) out of 9 in that room. There were two servers taking care of the other three tables. What really irked us is the fact we would have left spending around $100, but the lack of service wasn’t worth sticking around. Hopefully others will give them high praises and we will try it another day.
Not bad, but disappointing. Tried it during restaurant week. Have had a better fish taco from a food truck.
From appetizers, to dessert, everything, including service, was exceptional. We went here on a whim for an early dinner. The valet parking in the back of the restaurant was a lovely surprise, especially with the oftentimes crazy parking on Brookside. We decided to start our meal with the deviled eggs, despite my hesitancy-I have never had a deviled egg that I enjoyed, but was feeling up to the challenge, and boy was I happy that I did! The egg filling was amazing, the spicy remoulade added the perfect amount of zest, and the fried oysters were delicious. During the meal, I actually mentioned to my boyfriend that I could eat a whole plate of them as a meal. For our entres, I had the bone in in pork chop with mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, a peach compote and blue cheese crumbles. The pork chop was humongous and juicy, and all of the flavors of the dish really came together. My boyfriend had their special, duck breast with couscous and asparagus. I managed to sneak a bite of his, and it was wonderful as well, the portions were large, and he actually had to help me finish my plate (I had my eye on dessert). For dessert we had the chocolate mouse, which was the perfect end to the meal. It was light, fluffy, and not too heavy. The service was exceptional with the perfect balance of attention. We came here on a whim, and I am so glad that we did! We definitely want to come back and try other dishes!
Wine Dinner at The Hen Bistro. I had my first wine dinner at the Hen Bistro and the overall experience I have to say was great. Delicious wine and the food blew me away. I really love the location too, I love being able to eat and then just walk around on Brookside, I had a great time!
If you have had good French food before, avoid this restaurant. The food was not good, definitely did not reflect the high price. I would have honestly enjoyed Papa Johns more. My first and last visit. If you happen to travel to St. Louis, visit Brasserie – excellent French cuisine.
